Dear Colleagues,
I hope you all are having a restful and rejuvenating summer. As the start of the Fall Quarter approaches, I look forward to the renewed collaboration and activity that a new academic year brings.
As we transition into the new quarter, I would like to extend my sincere gratitude for the campus feedback received during the launch of new initiatives, most notably the Triton Student System (TSS). Your insights are invaluable, and the TSS team is continuing to refine the system to ensure it best serves our campus needs. Thank you for your patience and your partnership in improving these vital tools.
One of my top priorities as we begin the term is fostering connections across our campus. I strongly encourage all faculty to register for the upcoming Triton Weeks of Welcome (TWOW) Student and Faculty Mixer on September 22. This mixer is an excellent opportunity for each school to highlight its unique academic and research offerings and outstanding faculty. These gatherings are also essential for strengthening the bonds between our educators and students, fostering the kind of vibrant community that defines UC San Diego. I hope to see many of you there.
I remain eager to hear your thoughts and feedback and look forward to seeing you all on campus very soon. Please feel free to reach out to me directly at evc@ucsd.edu.
In partnership,
Robert E. Continetti

Triton Student System (TSS) Launch & Access |
TSS access has continued to roll out to various groups over the past month, beginning with staff and faculty on July 13, main campus continuing and graduate students on July 21, Division of Extended Studies staff and students on August 11, and incoming undergraduate students later this week.
Important TSS Sign-In Information, particularly for students:
|
- Use Google Chrome on a desktop or laptop to access TSS and book courses. Try opening a new Incognito window and clearing the browser's cache and cookies to fix loading or booking errors.
-
Do Not Open Multiple Tabs. Opening multiple tabs or windows in TSS can cause errors, lock you out of your account, or freeze a student's registration. If you get locked out, close all TSS windows, wait a few minutes, then log back in.
- TSS will be unavailable nightly from 11 p.m.–7 a.m. PDT, including weekends, to support data migration and system maintenance.

Why the move to TSS?
UC San Diego’s legacy student information system could no longer support the university’s long-term academic and administrative needs. It depended on complex manual processes, was difficult to enhance, became increasingly brittle and relied on specialized knowledge held by a limited number of people.
TSS replaces that infrastructure with a scalable platform designed to integrate processes more effectively and bring the main campus and the Division of Extended Studies onto a unified student information system.
TSS is not a one-to-one recreation of any individual tool. The TSS team recognizes that the retirement of familiar tools, including WebReg and EASy, is a big transition. Those tools were refined and customized over many years, and TSS will require continued input, time, development and investment to reach that level of functionality and familiarity.
Navigating the TSS Transition Together
As students, faculty, and staff have begun using TSS in their day-to-day activities, the TSS team recognizes that new processes, unfamiliar workflows, and unexpected issues are creating real disruptions for all, including changes to processes, departments supporting students and adjusting workflows, and teams working to stabilize and improve the system. The accelerated implementation timeline meant issues would emerge as the system was used at scale, and the team acknowledges that navigating them asks a great deal of everyone involved.
University leadership, executive sponsors, and project governance are closely monitoring the impact of these challenges. Work is actively underway to identify, prioritize, and resolve critical issues, provide guidance where processes have changed, and make ongoing improvements through the university's hypercare processes. We appreciate the patience, partnership, and resilience of everyone working through this. Your experiences and feedback are directly shaping a stronger system for the university.
Please continue to use the Share Your TSS Experience Form as the campus navigates the TSS launch together.
More detailed TSS updates are provided in the sections below.

Fall 2026 Booking & Schedule of Classes Updates
Booking for fall courses has begun for continuing undergraduate and graduate students for main campus. Due to technical issues, all undergraduate first pass booking windows have been extended until August 14, 2026, at 10:59 p.m. Any booking windows that had already closed were reopened and extended until that date. See the full update sent to undergraduate students on August 4.
See the August 11 update to learn more about the Schedule of Classes (SOC) in TSS, known issues and the process for addressing SOC related concerns.
New Class Planning Tools Now Available
Students now have two options for planning their schedules before booking courses (enrolling) in TSS:
|
-
TritonGPT Class Planner: AI-powered tool to search for classes and generate schedule ideas using natural language
-
Class Planner: A traditional, interactive schedule-building experience offering both manual and auto planning options
|
Both tools use official Schedule of Classes data to help students prepare for registration. Visit the Plan Your Class Schedule page to choose the tool that best fits your needs.
Batch Authorization in Triton Enrollment Authorization (TEA) Now Live
This functionality allows advising staff to apply authorization override(s) to individual students or groups of students without requiring students to submit a TEA Request. Read more about TEA Batch Authorization.

The TSS team’s top priority remains helping students successfully book their courses and resolving issues as quickly as possible. Here's how you can help keep that work moving:
|
- Be Specific:
-
Say who you are. Include your role and context. Examples: "I am a scheduler in Biological Sciences," "I am an undergraduate advisor in Eighth College," or "I am a faculty member."
- Share as much detail as possible. Share what you were doing, what you expected to happen and what actually happened. Include screenshots or screen recordings when possible.
- Report Only Once: Submit one ticket per issue, avoid follow-up check-ins unless you have new information and close your ticket once resolved. These simple actions help maintain an accurate view of active issues and focus our attention where it's needed most.
-
Use Official Channels for Updates: Use established communication channels for updates rather than contacting individual team members directly. When new information is available, TSS will share it broadly.

NAGPRA Training Course Launched by UC San Diego |
The UC San Diego Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) Compliance Training on UC Learning is now available. The training was developed through the efforts of the Vice Chancellor Offices for Organizational Transformation and Operations Management and Capital Programs in collaboration with the Human Resources Learning Technologies team.
The first of its kind in the UC system, the training reflects UC San Diego’s prioritization of compliance with federal and state repatriation laws and UC policy. The content focuses on creating shared understanding of NAGPRA basic requirements for reporting Native American and Native Hawaiian cultural resources. This module is intended to strengthen campus consistency and provide accessible guidance for those within the campus community who may encounter cultural material during their course of work.
All faculty and staff, particularly those who may have a higher likelihood of encountering cultural items or remains in their work, are strongly encouraged to complete the training.

Upcoming Changes to Duration of Status for International Students and Scholars |
|
|
|
Following the recent U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) final rule to eliminate "duration of status (D/S)” on the Form I-94 (entry record), experts in the University of California and UC San Diego communities are currently reviewing the ruling and identifying the various impacts the new requirements will have on stakeholders and campus. When this rule takes effect on September 15, 2026, the Admit Until Date (AUD) on the I-94 will be replaced with a fixed period of stay that admits students and scholars on F-1 and J-1 visas up until an exact date, versus the end of their academic program.
View the July 20 campus notice for additional information. New information will continue to be updated and posted on the Fixed Period of Stay in the U.S. page.
