Public Policy Alum Leads Atlanta Energy-Burden Fund

Matt Cox, a 2014 Ph.D. graduate of the School of Public Policy, played an instrumental role in advancing recent City of Atlanta legislation to help reduce energy burden among low-income residents.

Georgia Tech's innovative, accessible music and coding platform EarSketch, created by a team led by Brian Magerko (Literature, Media, and Communication), was listed among the American Association of School Librarians' (AASL) Best Digital Tools for Teaching and Learning in 2024.

Ivan Allen College Student's Team Wins Emerging Creatives Grant

Undergraduate student Dhruv Kulkarni (Literature, Media, and Communication) was part of the team that won this year's Alliance for the Arts in Research Universities' Emerging Creatives grant for their project "Shore Thing," a game teaching middle school students about sea level rise and a cost-effective approach to climate education.

LMC Joins Tellus Museum for National Astronomy Day

As part of a grant from the School of Literature, Media, and Communication (LMC) to investigate how science fiction can be used to explore the ethics of astrobiology and space exploration, Marion L. Brittain Postdoctoral Fellows Zita Hüsing and Lainie Pomerleau hosted a table featuring science fiction games, activities, and flyers created by their students for National Astronomy Day at the Tellus Museum of Science.

Richard Utz (Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts) presented his paper, “(Re)creating Camelot: Scholars, Networks, and the Academy,” at the 59th International Congress on Medieval Studies at Western Michigan University in May.

Kelly Ritter (Literature, Media, and Communication) delivered two keynotes on first-generation student writers in higher education: one at the Conference for Basic Writing at the 2024 Conference on College Composition and Communication in Spokane, Washington, and a second at the Southern Regional Composition Conference in Oklahoma City.

Five faculty members from the School of Modern Languages presented their research at the 2024 ISLSP and CIBER Conference at George Washington University. Hyoun-A Joo, Sophie Landrieux Kartochian, Britta Kallin, Stuart Minson, and Brigitte Stepanov discussed teaching sustainable development in the world language classroom. Joo also presented on intercultural communication, and Kartochian shared best practices for business language education.

Milton Mueller (Public Policy) participated in the Observer Research Foundation America workshop on “Technology Alliances and International Cooperation” in Washington, alongside representatives from major policy and industry organizations.

Lisa Yaszek (Literature, Media, and Communication) received the 2024 Award for Lifetime Contributions to SF Scholarship from the Science Fiction Research Association, the oldest organization for scholarly science fiction studies.
