Reminder About Use and Possession of Fireworks; Fireworks Hotline is 303-271-8200

With the Fourth of July rapidly approaching, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office would like to clarify Colorado law as it applies to the use and possession of fireworks in unincorporated areas of Jefferson County, which includes all of Ken-Caryl east and west of C-470. A good rule of thumb: any device that explodes or leaves the ground is most likely illegal in Colorado. Colorado law defines permissible fireworks as any device that does not explode or leave the ground. Examples of permissible fireworks are cylindrical or cone fountains, sparklers, toy smoke devices, snakes and glow worms. To report illegal fireworks, call the Jefferson County Fireworks Hotline at 303-271-8200. For more information on fireworks safety, visit www.jeffcosheriff.com.

Fourth of July Event

The Fourth of July blowout at the Ranch House Pool will feature live music by the Jim Hyatt Band from noon-2 p.m. The pool will be open from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Come join your neighbors for an afternoon of patriotic fun!

Library Bookmobile Coming to Ken-Caryl

Ken-Caryl residents will soon benefit from an additional library. Starting July 12, the Jefferson County Public Library Bookmobile will begin weekly service from noon-4 p.m. each Saturday in the Safeway parking lot at Ken Caryl Ave. and Shaffer Parkway. Patrons may utilize the Bookmobile for the library’s most popular services: checking out and returning materials, placing and picking up holds, and accessing information about other library services. The Bookmobile collection holds over 1,200 items for patrons of all ages in a variety of formats—books, DVDs and audiobooks. Children, teens and adults may sign up and claim rewards for the Summer Reading Club at the Bookmobile. Patrons may begin using the Bookmobile as a pickup location for holds and requested items beginning July 12 by choosing “Bookmobile” in the dropdown menu from the library catalog at jeffcolibrary.org

Reminder: Rangers Have New Phone Number

A new phone system has been set up at the Ken-Caryl Ranch Park Ranger office. The Rangers can now be reached at 303-979-1876, ext. 170. This is the main number for the Ranch House, but the Rangers now have their own extension. If you reach the voicemail for the Rangers, you may leave a message and it will be returned as soon as possible. If you have an emergency, you should dial 911. If you are calling after hours with a wildlife concern, call Colorado State Patrol at 303-273-1616. To report suspicious activity, call the Jefferson County Sheriff at 303-277-0211.

Flick & Float Event July 13

Join us for a Flick & Float event on Sunday, July 13 at dusk at the Community Center Pool. The movie "Shark Tale" will be shown, and popcorn, candy and soda will be sold. The movie will start sometime between 8:15 and 8:30 p.m., but feel free to come earlier to get a spot. You can bring a noodle to float in the pool or just relax poolside in a chair.

Help Us Improve Our Environmental Education Programs!

Ken-Caryl Ranch is in the process of enhancing the Environmental Education program (formerly Ranger U). We would like to hear from residents about what they like and don't like, best times for programs, locations, etc. Please take five minutes to answer our short Environmental Education Survey so that we can make the program the best it can be.
