Observe nature for science
The City Nature Challenge is a global event in which participants collaborate to document biodiversity. It takes place this year from April 24 – April 27, 2026. UC San Diego's Natural Reserve System is joining the efforts of the San Diego Natural History Museum and the SDSU Biodiversity Museum to coordinate the
City Nature Challenge in San Diego. If your department, student club, or other group is interested in hosting a bioblitz during the City Nature Challenge, please reach out to nrs@ucsd.edu to be part of the event.
Won't be in San Diego in April? You can participate by uploading your photos of nature to iNaturalist from wherever you happen to be during the event. The global City Nature Challenge is organized by the Community Science teams at the California Academy of Sciences and the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County.
