Town Hall Budget Meeting Tonight

The Town Hall Budget Meeting and Joint Study Session of the Ken-Caryl Ranch Master Association and Metropolitan District is Tuesday, Sept. 6 at 6 p.m. at the Ranch House. This meeting signifies the beginning of the annual budget preparation process and is the first opportunity for residents to provide input for the 2017 budgets. You can review the Meeting Agenda online. For questions or to submit feedback, contact Master Association Executive Director Chris Pacetti at chrisp@kcranch.org or Metropolitan District Manager Darrell Windes at darrellw@kcranch.org

Neighbors to Honor Capt. Jason Dahl with Vigil on 15th Anniversary of 9/11

There will be a candlelight vigil on Sunday, Sept. 11 around 6:30 p.m. in front of the Jason Dahl Memorial near the entrance to the Manor Ridge neighborhood (Tamarade Drive and Valley Parkway). Capt. Jason Dahl was the captain of United Flight 93 that was hijacked and crashed into a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania on Sept. 11, 2001. He was a resident in Manor Ridge on Ken-Caryl Ranch. Everyone is invited to come to the vigil to honor this hero. Please bring candles if you have them as there will be a limited amount of candles handed out.

Ken-Caryl Ranch Beacon-Tincup Fuels Management Project

In spring 2016 the Colorado State Forest Service – Golden District entered into a service agreement with the Ken-Caryl Ranch Master Association to oversee the implementation and completion of a fuels reduction project in Ken-Caryl Ranch Open Space. State Forest Service staff has identified approximately 31.3 acres to be treated to improve fuel breaks and wildfire suppression opportunities. You can find out details about the project and see a map in the Fuels Management article online.

Open House to Discuss Hazardous Trails Near Brannon Gearhart Park, Wood Sorrel and Buckthorn Access Trails

The Ken-Caryl Ranch Master Association Board is considering a proposal to re-route sections of hard-surface trail and rebuild low-water stream crossings in and around Brannon Gearhart Park and is seeking community input on the project. An open house will be held on Sept. 27 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Dakota Lodge where residents can learn details about the project. See the News Article for more information and a map of the area. If you have questions, contact Open Space Manager Sean Warren at 303-979-1876, ext. 163, or seanw@kcranch.org.

Preparing for Wildfire in Ken-Caryl: Firewise Home Safety Info Meeting

The Ken-Caryl Firewise Committee will host an educational meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 14 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Shaffer Room at the Ranch House. Residents are invited to attend and learn more about preparing for wildfire in Ken-Caryl. Representatives from the Ken-Caryl Firewise Committee, West Metro Fire Rescue and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office will provide information on wildfires, emergency incidents and safe evacuation.

Fire Restrictions Lifted

As of Sept. 2, the Jefferson County Sheriff lifted the temporary fire restriction order for all areas of unincorporated Jefferson County. The current and predicted weather conditions have reduced the danger of wildfire. However, people are encouraged to be vigilant as the danger of fire is always present in the high country. Warm and windy days can quickly lower the fuel moisture content of trees and grasses, making them susceptible to ignition.

Equestrian Center Task Force: Applications Due Sept. 15

An Equestrian Task Force will be formed to develop recommendations for both short and long-term facility improvements to the Equestrian Center. Recommendations will include funding plans. The Task Force will have 5-7 residents as well as Master Association Board and staff representatives. If you are interested in serving on the Task Force, you must submit an application by Thursday, Sept. 15. For details on the Task Force and an application, see our Committees and Task Forces page on our website.

Open Space Budget Meeting

The Ken-Caryl Ranch Open Space Committee has begun work on a recommendation to the Master Association Board for funding open space related projects and operations in 2017. The committee will conduct a special meeting on Sept. 14 at 7 p.m. at Dakota Lodge to begin working in earnest on their request to the Board, and, as with all of their meetings, the community is welcome to attend. This is one opportunity for you to weigh in on how your dues are spent on the management of our open space and to voice your opinion on open space needs. The committee typically meets the fourth Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. at Dakota Lodge. Committee meeting minutes and other documents can be found in the Open Space section of the website.

Community Trail Work Day

The Ken-Caryl Trail Club and the Ken-Caryl Community Network are teaming up for a community-wide trail work event on Sunday, Sept. 18 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The project will be construction of the new Mastodon Trail, which will be a single-track, dirt trail connecting Brannon Gearhart Park to the Community Center, adjacent to Ken Caryl Ave. The site is easy to access, and residents of all ages are encouraged to join us to build this new trail. Refer to the map for the project location. The project will begin at the west end in Brannon Gearhart Park and work east toward the Community Center. Volunteers may show up at any time and leave at any time. Cold drinks, snacks and lunch will be provided. Participants should bring water and work gloves. If you have questions, contact Volunteer Trail Coordinator Dan Mullins at danmullins26@gmail.com.

New Playground Equipment for 2-5 Year Olds at Ranch House Park

A small playground structure for 2-5 year olds will be added to the playground at the Ranch House. The new structure will match the existing equipment, and it will also have two log steppers and a curved balance beam. It will be surrounded by fence and separated from the other playground by a small fence. The surrounding material will be wood chips. If all goes as planned with construction and the weather, staff is anticipating opening this playground in mid-September. The equipment is a licensing requirement for the new preschool at the Ranch House. It is being paid for out of the Youth Services Fund through the Ken-Caryl Ranch Metropolitan District.

Equestrian Center Quarterly Meeting and Love Your Barn Spruce-Up Event

There will be an Equestrian Center Quarterly Meeting on Saturday, Sept. 17 from 9-10 a.m. at the Equestrian Office. Coffee, tea and pastries will be provided. A meeting agenda will be posted on our website prior to the meeting. Then at 10 a.m., show your support for the Equestrian Center by helping to spruce up the facility! Bring your rakes, brooms, buckets, etc. Everyone is welcome!
