Dr. Christina Gushanas has been named the Executive Director of the Eleanor and Charles Garrett Center on Transition and Disability Studies. Dr. Gushanas is an assistant professor of special education with a research focus on improving inclusive opportunities and postsecondary outcomes for individuals with disabilities. The Garrett Center collaborates with school districts, regional education service centers, and state and national organizations to improve the lives of children, youth, and adults with disabilities by bridging the research-to-practice gap.

The Garrett Center on Transition and Disability Studies has been awarded a $2.2 million dollar grant from the U.S. Department of Education Rural Postsecondary and Economic Development Program. Over the next four years the Garrett Center will provide services to rural Texas communities that support students with disabilities transitioning from high school to postsecondary education and employment.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: Sam Houston Council For Exceptional Children |
Volunteers are needed for the Special Olympics Bocce Tournament! Training is on Saturday, September 21, 2024 from 12 p.m. - 2 p.m. at TEC 279.
The event is on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at Intramural Field 2.
Volunteer hours will be in two shifts, 7 a.m. - 11 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. - 3 p.m.
