We’ve Got [Faculty] News! Our faculty is the cornerstone of a bold strategic plan we launched several years ago anchored by twin goals of academic excellence and student achievement. Putting the plan into action, we’ve added seven new full-time faculty members over the past 12 months. Now, we’re pleased to introduce them:
- Anna Arons will teach Criminal Law, Evidence, and courses related to family law.
- Noa Ben-Asher will be teaching Torts, Family Law, and Law, Gender & Sexuality.
- Miriam A. Cherry teaches Contracts, Business Organizations, and Employment Law.
- Martin J. LaFalce directs our in-house Defense and Advocacy Clinic and teaches Criminal Law.
- Philip Lee will teach Property, Education Law, and courses related to constitutional law and race and the law.
- Mark C. Niles will be teaching Civil Procedure, Administrative Law, and Constitutional Law.
- Abel Rodríguez will teach Criminal Law, Immigration Law, and Crimmigration.
Each of our newest faculty members brings a range of gifts as teachers and scholars that will make the Law School immeasurably better. And, together, they will be part of a transformation of our faculty that will propel St. John’s forward for years to come.

Check Out Our Real Estate Alumni Spotlights Series Through their new Real Estate Alumni Spotlight Series, the Mattone Family Institute for Real Estate Law introduces you to alumni working in and around the real estate industry. Tara Mulrooney ’01, a partner at Zetlin & De Chiara LLP is in the spotlight this month, sharing: “After an initial start in corporate law, I slowly carved out a niche practice in transactional construction law. The work mattered and it involved building structures that people interact with every day. I learned the language of construction, which is about the physical aspects of a project, but also the aesthetic. Construction is not just about cranes and dump trucks, it encompasses materials, the environment, and people.” You can read Tara's full Real Estate Alumni Spotlight.

On Air and in the Media Professor Elaine Chiu was on air recently with ABC 7’s Eyewitness News (1:49 mark) commenting on a conviction secured against a Yonkers man for his violent hate crime against a 67-year-old Asian woman. Hate crime convictions, she noted, are "notoriously difficult to get." This past spring, Professor Chiu was instrumental in helping the Asian American Bar Association of New York release its second major report on anti-Asian hate crimes.
How do platform rules shape where people "live" online? For an answer to that timely question, Marketplace turned to Professor Kate Klonick. Digital content was also in focus when the Pivot Podcast talked to Professor Klonick about social media moderation.
In the latest episode of Legal Spirits, the podcast brought to you by our Center for Law and Religion co-directors, Professors Mark Movsesian and Marc DeGirolami, the two discuss 303 Creative, the latest wedding vendor case pitting free speech rights against anti-discrimination laws.
In the Field Hon. J. Paul Oetken (SDNY) has appointed Professor Jennifer Baum, Director of our Child Advocacy Clinic, and Sarah Phillips, litigation counsel at Simpson, Thacher & Bartlett LLP, as attorneys for two minor children in Lomanto v. Agbelusi, a case brought under the Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction.
