University of Oregon
Dear Student Services and Enrollment Management Team,
As 2018 comes to a close, I am reminded of all of the great work that has happened this year in every corner of Student Services and Enrollment Management. Every individual in our division has helped make the University of Oregon the wonderful place that it is for all our students, staff, and guests. I am grateful for everybody’s contribution this year and look forward to an even better 2019. Thank you!

SSEM Annual Winter Retreat
This season I hope you have the opportunity to relax and enjoy time with friends and family. I also hope you get to connect with colleagues from across the division by joining me at the annual SSEM Winter Retreat on Monday, December 10, in the Ford Alumni Center Ballroom. Attend one of three sessions, each beginning on the hour from 2:00–5:00 p.m. This is an opportunity for us to celebrate a successful 2018 and enjoy the company of our peers. Refreshments and snacks will be provided.

University Health, Counseling, and Testing Center Construction Update
The UHCTC remodel is plowing forward. The concrete pour of the slab is currently scheduled to occur today, Thursday, December 6. The contractor has received approval to work until 10:00 p.m., if necessary, to complete the pour and saw-cutting. A lot of activity will occur throughout the day in that area. The noise level will be higher than usual, with cement trucks coming and going and the saw-cutting that will occur while the concrete is still “green” to get clean control joints. UHC Triage moves on December 10, and the north entry to the building closes for the duration of the project on December 17.

Walton and Hamilton Remodel
Speaking of construction, Walton and Hamilton residence halls are due for a transformation in the near future. The development management consultant, architecture team, and general contractor for the Hamilton and Walton Residence Halls Transformation project have been selected and are busily working on the program planning and conceptual design. The hope is to take the site plan to the Campus Planning Committee in late January or early February for review.

Grant Awarded to the University Counseling Center
Congratulations to the University Counseling Center for receiving the Garrett Lee Smith Campus Suicide Prevention grant (GLS). The purpose of GLS is to help universities develop a comprehensive, evidence-based approach toward reducing the adverse consequences of serious mental illness and substance use disorders, including suicidal behavior, substance-related injuries, and academic failure. The grant will provide funding for initiatives already in the works and some that are on the drawing board. The UCC will work in collaboration with the College of Education to see these initiatives through.

SSEM Annual Report
The 2018 SSEM annual report is on the press and will be available next week. Campus leadership, donors, and university leaders across the country can expect to see a summary of all the great work that’s happened in SSEM this past year.

Again, thank you for making 2018 such a great year, and best wishes for the new year.

Sincerely,
Roger J. Thompson
Vice President for Student Services and Enrollment Management
