We've Got Great News! The July 2021 New York Bar Exam results are out, and we're thrilled to report that St. John's J.D. program graduates who took the test for the first time passed at a rate of 94%—a full eight points higher than the state-wide pass rate for New York law schools. This success is a testament to our exceptional students, outstanding faculty, and dedicated bar preparation team headed by Professors Bob Ruescher and Rachel Paras. The Class of 2021 is also on track to record one of our best employment rates ever, a testament to our wonderful Career Development Office team.

Hitting their stride on campus and virtually, St. John's Law alumni, faculty, staff, and friends turned out to support the critical work of acknowledging and dismantling systemic racism. In a new paper (forthcoming in the Journal of Law and Religion), Professor Mark Movsesian compares how courts across the globe have approached restrictions on public worship and explores what the cases reveal about social divisions, especially in the United States. He discussed the paper recently with Deseret News.
Professor Anna Roberts' legal scholarship on prior conviction impeachment in criminal cases is earning the spotlight and making a difference. It's been cited in multiple federal court opinions recently.
It's been a busy fall for Kenneth Wang Professor of Law Rosemary Salomone, with presentations and publications spotlighting her research and scholarship on the evolution of English as the dominant lingua franca worldwide. Professor Salomone's new book on the subject, The Rise of English: Global Politics and the Power of Language (Oxford University Press), will be out soon.

Applause! Applause! The Frank S. Polestino Trial Advocacy Institute (PTAI) team of Jared Brady '22, Nicholas Fajardo '21, Kimberly Henry '21, and Javonne Jenkins '22 won the recent All-Star Bracket Challenge regional competition and advanced to the national rounds. And let's add some recognition for Jared and Nick, who each earned an Outstanding Advocate award.
As part of a team representing PTAI, Chelsea McGee '22 won an award for Best Closing Statement at the Syracuse National Trial Competition hosted by Syracuse University College of Law. Way to go, Chelsea!
Congratulations to the Moot Court Honor Society team of Lauren Jusas '22 and Thomas Larounis '22, who received the Best Brief, Runner-up award at the Wechsler National First Amendment Moot Court Competition hosted by American University Washington College of Law.
