CSU’s ChatGPT.edu contract has been extended. “We will continue offering ChatGPT Edu to maintain continuity in curriculum, faculty development and student pathways. Maintaining this engagement will avoid shifting costs to our employees and students and build on the progress we have made toward creating equitable access to AI across our system.” CSU Leader: Special Edition, May 19, 2026. New Report: State of AI Curricular Innovation at SJSU. The 2026–2028 report is the second annual report on the state of AI Curricular Innovation at SJSU. The report, prepared by Sandy Hirsh (Special Assistant to the Provost for AI initiatives), assesses the rapid expansion of AI–focused programs and courses at SJSU and outlines emerging directions for strategic curricular planning. Here are a few findings from the report:

- AI-focused academic programs at SJSU are projected to grow by 75% over two years, increasing from 16 programs before Fall 2025 to at least 28 programs by FY2027/2028.

AI-related course offerings are also expanding substantially, with a projected 36% increase, from 74 courses before Fall 2025 to at least 101 courses by FY2027/2028.
- Notably, AI-focused courses are now present in all eight academic colleges, reflecting a shift from concentrated technical development to distributed, university-wide integration.

Congratulations to another of the project winners of the AI Development Awards, awarded by the College of Health and Human Sciences. Ten awards were granted in total, with blog posts published over a few months to describe the projects. Here is the latest blog post:

Katrina Long (Occupational Therapy) and Yi Yuan (Audiology) received an award for “AI-Ready OT: Scaffolded Student Preparation and Curriculum Materials for Responsible GenAI Use.” In a recent CHHS blog post, they said: “This project is creating a structured, course-embedded approach to responsible GenAI use in occupational therapy education.” Read more.

Human Wisdom for the Age of AI: A Field Guide to Cultivating Essential Skills is now available for free from AAC&U, Elon University, and The Princeton Review. As the third publication in the Student Guide to AI series, this guide helps students develop human capabilities: curiosity, critical thinking, creativity, ethical reasoning, communication, adaptability, and other essential capabilities.

This free, hands-on workshop will share best practices, practical pedagogies, and data-informed insights from a year-long exploration of AI integration in teaching and learning -- highlighting new approaches to supporting students as technical and scholarly writers in an era of increasingly powerful AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude). The workshop will feature a Canvas-based module designed to scaffold each stage of the writing process, helping students navigate both the opportunities and risks of AI-assisted work.
