UMKC - University of Missouri-Kansas City
March 19, 2020
Dear Colleagues,

Thank you for all that you are doing to support our students and keep our university focused on its mission during this time. Everyone is doing an outstanding job adjusting to our new normal, and I hope spring break provides you some much needed respite.

As previously announced, all instruction will continue remotely through the end of the semester. Based on President Choi’s message this afternoon, beginning Monday, March 23, all faculty are expected to work from home through April 12.

Please keep in mind this timeline could be extended in the future. During this time, departments and faculty offices should be closed; classrooms will not be available. To facilitate the complete transition to home-based faculty work, faculty will have until Friday, March 27, to gather necessary teaching and research materials for use at home, but you should not be working from campus beginning March 23.

If you are currently teaching from an on-campus location, please use the upcoming week to seek whatever assistance and accommodations may be needed to facilitate your full transition to instruction from off campus. If you are facing specific challenges to teaching remotely, please consult with our Instructional Design and Technology team to discuss your concerns. Special equipment needs can be submitted to accommodations2020@umkc.edu. If you are a faculty member with a disability, and are concerned about access to technology to support your online teaching, you are encouraged to reach out to Lacie Fox (l.j.mcclellan-fox@umkc.edu), our Employee ADA Specialist to discuss options.

Beginning Monday, March 23, research labs should also be closed, with the exception of those granted permission by the chair and dean to remain open for essential activities only (e.g., animal care). School of Dentistry faculty and staff involved in direct patient care will continue to follow direction from their dean and campus leadership.

Again, thank you for all that you do—it is great to see our campus work together during this time to problem-solve and support one another!

Best regards,

Jenny Lundgren, Ph.D.
