Dear PI Colleagues,
I’m pleased to let you know that Mary Steinhardt will be UT’s next research integrity officer (RIO), effective Sept. 1, 2020. The research integrity officer is responsible for addressing all allegations of research misconduct while ensuring impartiality, thoroughness, and confidentiality in all matters.
Mary is a distinguished teaching professor in Kinesiology and Health Education and has served as the university’s faculty ombuds since 2008. In this role, she has acted as an independent and neutral advisor and mediator — skills that make her ideal for this important role in the Office of the Vice President for Research.
At the same time, together with Dan Jaffe, I am very grateful to Stan Roux for his service as our research integrity officer during the past two years. This position demands a keen intellect, the ability to deal with nuance and ambiguity, and considerable diplomatic skills. Stan has these qualities in abundance and has used them to serve our university well. Upholding integrity in research is a responsibility that flows directly from UT’s core values, and through his work as RIO, Stan has made a significant contribution to this effort.
