Cybersecurity has become an immediate threat in our modern world.  Too often we witness headlines highlighting where organizational leaders find themselves in litigation about what they did, or didn’t do, to protect data. This is similar to the accounting industry during the 1980s and 90s when accounting was an organizational function often relegated to the ‘number experts.’ Eventually, the corporate landscape evolved and organizational leaders could no longer ‘pass the buck’ to the accounting experts; leaders were held responsible for financial results and ensuring legitimate practices were used to derive them.
In this session, Nathan Garrett, partner and principal with Graves & Garrett LLC, former state and federal prosecutor and FBI Special Agent, will frame the modern cybersecurity threat and cover how government and congress impose liability.  He will provide an overview of the requirements of ‘holders of data’ and discuss examples outlining what data holders do, or don’t do, that can pose liability to an organization.
Whether you are leader or a contributor to a large organization, owner of a small business, or an individual interested in understanding more about cybersecurity, this session will provide a solid introduction.
