Fort Wayne Public Television's PBS affiliate WFWA-TV (Channel 39, Fort Wayne) completes the tower and antenna work that accompanied "PBS39" moving last month from RF Channel 40 to RF Channel 18. There's now a new antenna on their tower, and they now broadcast with 350kW, up from 152.8kW, but at roughly the same antenna height.
Nexstar's CBS affiliate/WANE-TV (Channel 15, Fort Wayne) weekend meteorologist Rob Lydick exits after five years. Mr. Lydick will join Penn State University and host "Weather World"
WANE-TV prepared a farewell video.
Adams Radio's Gold AC/WWFW (103.9fm, Fort Wayne) rolls out a new airstaff lineup:
Murphy, Sam, and Jodi (5am until 9am)
Travis Walker (9am until Noon)
Randy Alomar (Noon until 3pm)
Taylor Morgan (3pm until 7pm)
John Tesh (7pm until Midnight)
Last week, we told you that veteran TV news director Don Bradley had died. Mr. Bradley was 73. Born Don Burian, he worked 58 years in radio and TV broadcasting, with stops at WGL (1250am, Fort Wayne), WIFE (1310am, Indianapolis), WLYV (1450am, Fort Wayne), and after several more stops in radio and TV, the news director chair at WPTA-TV. Mr. Bradley's wife Connie said they planned to move back to Fort Wayne, as family lives there. A memorial service will be planned for later this year in Fort Wayne. Southwest
In the 1970s, Mark Snell served as News Director at WOMI (1490am) and WBKR (92.5fm, both Owensboro, Kentucky). Sad to report that he died on October 5, at age 62. Mr. Snell later earned his Juris Doctor (law degree) and moved to Houston, Texas, where he focused on energy law. Once he returned to Owensboro, he became President/CEO of the Greater Owensboro Economic Development Corp. until April of this year. Here's the complete obituary.
This Week in Indiana Radio History

October 21: In 1962, 100.5fm in Kokomo signs on as WFKO. Today, it's WWKI. In 2016, WBAA (920am, West Lafayette) added an FM translator (W290CM) at 105.9fm.
October 22: In 1940, 1450am in Vincennes signs on as WAOV, and still is. In 2001, WMYS (1430am, Indianapolis) flips format from Standards ("Music of Your Life") to Talk ("NewsTalk 1430") and their call letters became WXNT.
October 23: In 1924, 1130am in Indianapolis signs on as WFBM. It later moved to 1330am (1927), 1090am (1928), 1230am (1929) and after NARBA in 1941: 1260am. Today, it's WNDE. In 2014, former WPTA-TV Fort Wayne VP/GM Ed Metcalfe died at age 96.
October 24: In 2002, WXKE (103.9fm, Fort Wayne) flips format from Rock ("Rock 104") to AC as WYLT ("My 103.9"). In 2003, WENS (97.1fm, Shelbyville) became a Hot AC as "Real 97.1." In 2016, veteran Terre Haute DJ Matt Luecking is murdered. Age 44.
October 25: In 1979, WNDU-FM (92.9fm, South Bend) drops their hit parade format, and launches a Top 40 format as "U93".
October 27: In 1977, Longtime Wabash Valley Broadcasting/Terre Haute GM (WTHI(AM), WTHI-FM, WWVR-FM) Tony Hulman, Jr. dies at age 76. In 2004, Alfred Hudgins dies. Age 75. Mr. Hudgins hosted a weekend Blues show on WNDZ (750am, Portage).
