Good Morning:
IRW apologizes for missing last Thursday's issue. Your editor had a busy week, and IRW will extend your free subscription by one extra issue.
From the Reading Pile: Kentucky TV anchor was stalked by a viewer. She wants Constitution amended to protect victims.
From the Reading Pile: Comment dates set on national TV ownership caps - Can and should the FCC amend the 39% audience cap?
Later this week, we'll have several people moves, news on a possible FM station sale (if it happens), and the upcoming arrival of a new local TV evening news anchor.
Northeast
Adams Radio Group has two translators that simulcast HD signals from their CHR/WJFX (107.9fm, New Haven). One of those is "B96.9" (W245CA) which simulcasts the HD3 signal of "Hot 107.9". B96.9 recently dropped Tom Joyner in mornings and added Steve Harvey (Monday through Saturday from 6am until 10am).
Northwest
Star City Broadcasting's CHR/WAZY (96.5fm, Lafayette) welcomes PD Jared Boomer. Mr. Boomer graduated from the University of Indianapolis, and last worked for Reising Radio Partners' in Columbus. Back at "Z96.5," Mr. Boomer also hosts mornings ("Breakfast with Boomer" from 6am until 10am).
Central
Anthony Schoettle at The Indianapolis Business Journal profiles Scripps' ABC affiliate/WRTV-TV (Channel 6, Indianapolis) new GM Lana Durban Scott.
In October 2016, IRW wrote about former Emmis Communications digital content manager Kristine Esser Slentz filing a lawsuit against Emmis, alleging sexual harassment.
Earlier this month, Emmis prevailed in that lawsuit. A court determined that Ms. Slentz “has failed to demonstrate that the alleged harassment was severe or pervasive enough to rise to the level of a hostile work environment.”
Chief Judge Jane Magnus-Stinson continued by saying that while such language is not appropriate in the workplace, Slentz “has not provided the necessary foundation evidence to establish a hearsay exception or the independent veracity of these claims. Because this evidence is impermissible hearsay, it cannot be considered to substantiate Ms. Slentz’s claims and cannot be considered by the Court in its analysis.”
Thomas “Tom” Allebrandi died last Monday at the age of 90. Mr. Allebrandi belonged to the SBE and worked in broadcasting throughout his entire career, which included over 40 years at IMS and for the Indy Racing League. Mr. Allebrandi owned WART-FM (98.3fm) in Plainfield. Mr. Allebrandi also served for over 35 years as Chief Engineer for Carmel/Clay School's WHJE (91.3fm, Carmel).
Southeast
Where Are They Now? Former Alpha Media/Louisville Director of Urban Programming Phillip David March becomes PD at WUHT in Birmingham, Alabama. The Alpha Media/Louisville cluster includes Urban/WGZB (96.5fm, Lanesville).
