Health, Fitness and Weight Loss Truths & Myths; Still Time to Join the Fitness & Weight Loss Challenge

1. True: After the age of 30 your metabolism starts to decline. Our metabolism goes down because we are less active and thus lose muscle mass. Muscles are the body’s metabolic powerhouse; the more muscle tissue you have, the more calories you burn at rest.
2. True: Eating meat, whole milk/dairy, sugar and white bread/pasta will cause you to develop more wrinkles. Eating more fruits, vegetables, oils and whole grains will help you to develop fewer wrinkles.
3. False: Walking the dog every day is enough exercise. Not if you want to prevent chronic diseases or lose weight. You should be getting at least 30 minutes of moderate to vigorous activity most days. For weight loss we need 60-90 minutes.
4. True: The average American child uses 38.5 hours of media a week (TV, video games, etc.). There is a direct correlation between our sedentary lifestyles and both the obesity epidemic and the rise in chronic diseases.
Fitness & Weight Loss Challenge: If you haven't signed up for the Rock Your Resolution Fitness & Weight Loss Challenge, it's not too late! We take participants up until Jan. 23. See the details on our Fitness page.
