Incoming MPH, Global Health Student Joins VUMC Faculty

In addition to starting his MPH Global Health program in August, Ryan Belcher, MD, joined Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt’s Pediatric Department of Otolaryngology after completing a yearlong fellowship. Ryan's international work includes instructing Ethiopian ENTs and medicine residents in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia as well as humanitarian trips to Honduras, Cameroon, and the Philippines.

Faculty and Staff Attend Fogarty Principal Investigator Network Meeting at NIH

This summer, Marie Martin PhD, MEd., Ann Green, MPH and Troy Moon, MD, MPH attended the HIV Research Training and Infrastructure Development PI Network meeting in Bethesda on the NIH campus. VUMC adjunct faculty Wilbroad Mutale, PhD, MBChB and Marie Martin presented on our innovative Zambia Mentorship Programme at the Clayton-Dedonder Mentorship Fellows Program Meeting. They were joined by several colleagues from the University of Zambia and the Universidade Eduardo Mondlane in Mozambique. 

Summer News Briefs

Our colleagues, Xiao Ou Shu, MD, PhD, MPH, and Wei Zheng, MD, PhD were awarded the Memorabilia Medal “For the People’s Health” by the Vietnamese Ministry of Health in appreciation for their contributions in helping the nation establish a population-based research program for cancer, diabetes and other non-communicable diseases.

The Tuberculosis Center received a $3.6 million grant focused on predisposing factors for progression to TB disease. More from the TB Center » 
The Southeast AIDS Education and Training Center (AETC) was awarded a five-year, nearly $23 million federal grant to continue the coordination of AIDS education and training efforts in Tennessee and seven other southeastern states.
