The Director's Corner

Great things are happening at Brandon House!

Brandon House is creating some wonderful partnerships.  Last month, through Senator Fred Love, District 15, we were introduced to Director Tiffany Wright, Arkansas Department of Human Services - Division of Children and Family Services (DCFS).  Director Wright oversees child abuse prevention, child protection, foster care, family reunification, and adoption programs.  State Senator Fred Love hosted Director Wright, along with Deputy Chief of Staff Lori McDonald at the Capitol where Dr. Patrice and Dr. Pam gave a presentation detailing BH programs and services.   Director Tonya Williams, who oversees the Office of Early Childhood and licensing was also in attendance.  Director Williams also is responsible for the Better Beginnings quality improvement system for early education where Brandon House holds a Better Beginnings quality rating of III at our 12th Street site and a Better Beginnings rating of II at our WLR site.
Under Director Williams, Brandon House was awarded the Child Care Supply Building Grant through the American Rescue Plan Act to increase the availability of quality education among school-age youth in West Little Rock.  Our meeting with Director Tiffany Wright resulted in a connection for Brandon House to begin working with foster youth starting Saturday, September 30. We expect foster youth to begin coming to our afterschool programs.  Foster parents who are interested in having their youth connect with Brandon House can enroll students using our QR Code below.  We are excited about serving foster youth who can benefit from positive youth development programming.

Art Night Ft. Jonathan Daniel

Get ready to be amazed by the incredible talent of Jonathan Daniel! Born on March 23, 1979, in Fordyce, Arkansas, Jonathan is a visual artist and graphic designer extraordinaire. From a young age, he had a natural talent for traditional and graphic art, and his passion only grew from there. He's a master of acrylic paint and graphite pencil, and he uses these mediums to create stunning works of art.

After finishing high school in 1998, Jonathan went on to pursue an associate degree in graphic design, which he completed in December 2000. Since then, he's been on a non-stop journey of self-improvement and skill-honing. He's now an expert in traditional drawing and painting, digital art, 2-D and 3-D animation, and motion graphics.
Jonathan's talent has not gone unnoticed. In fact, he recently won First Place in the digital media category at the National Association for Interpretation awards ceremony in December 2021. He designed three amazing online experiences in collaboration with the Pine Bluff Advertising and Promotion Commission, all while navigating the challenges of the pandemic. Talk about innovation!

Jonathan's portfolio is stacked with amazing collaborations and freelance projects spanning two decades. He's even a contract consultant, helping individuals and businesses with their traditional and digital art needs. And let's not forget about his commitment to community service. He's always looking for ways to use art to bring people together, inspire his community, and make a positive impact.

In short, Jonathan Daniel is the real deal. He's a master of his craft, an innovator, and a community leader. Keep your eyes on this guy
because he's going places.

Take advantage of the opportunity to be captivated by Jonathan's stunning art. Art Night will be held at Brandon House, 12120 Colonel Glenn Road - Suite 1000, on Friday, October 13, 2023 in the Expressive Art Gallery, from 6 to 8 p.m. Little Rock artists attending Art Night will be among the first invited to collaborate with other local visual artists to create and co-design an impressive and impactful mural in Brandon House's event center. Fall In Segment: Let's Eat!

Savoring Success: Teen Chefs Shine in Our Culinary Journey!

We are thrilled to share the incredible culinary adventure our talented teenage chefs embarked on this month! During our "Let's Eat!" segment, our students have been busy discovering the art of cooking, creating delectable delights, and sharing their culinary talents with pride.

🍪 Cookie Craze: Our teens donned their aprons and showed off their baking skills, whipping up a medley of cookies that left everyone craving for more. From classic chocolate chip to imaginative flavors, these young bakers proved that the kitchen is their canvas for edible masterpieces.
🍧 Parfait Perfection: Layer by layer, our students crafted stunning parfaits that were as beautiful as they were delicious. They combined flavors, textures, and colors to create parfait artistry that amazed both their taste buds and their peers.

🧀 Charcuterie Creations: Our teen chefs also explored the world of charcuterie boards, assembling stunning platters of cured meats, cheeses, fruits, and more. Their charcuterie designs showcased not only their culinary skills but also their creativity and presentation prowess.
📸 Capture the Moments: Our budding culinary artists had a blast during their sessions, and we have some mouthwatering snapshots to prove it! Check out these delightful moments of learning and culinary exploration.

We believe that learning is most rewarding when it's hands-on and enjoyable, and our teens have certainly demonstrated this throughout their culinary journey. They are not only acquiring valuable culinary skills but also developing teamwork, creativity, and a passion for creating food that brings joy to the table.
Brandon House is thrilled to introduce you to “Second Wind” a powerful and thought-provoking short film that delves into the complexities of teenage life.  The film addresses critical issues such as drug abuse, tobacco use, bullying, and violence against teens. Through the eyes of our brave protagonist, Zoe, we journey into the world of hidden secrets and family turmoil.  The film was written and produced by Troy Anderson, Brandon House's Executive Producer; with editing support from BH Production team.
