A Message from Dean Sherry Glied

Dear Wagner Alumni,

The spring semester is underway! It has been a thrill to see students filling the halls of our new building with their energy as we’ve opened our ground floor for classes and events. We appreciate your patience as we continue to finish the space to best meet the needs of our students, faculty, and staff.

As you have likely read in the message from President Mills, I have made the difficult decision to step down as dean of NYU Wagner. I will stay on board until a new dean has been appointed, and Wagner’s day-to-day operations will remain seamless. As Dean, it has been incredible to witness the ground-breaking, world-changing work of our students, faculty, staff, and alumni and I am excited for the next chapter.

The new year also brings new challenges and opportunities in the world of public service. At Wagner, as always, we are committed to fostering compassionate, motivated leaders equipped with the skills to drive authentic change in their fields. We look forward to the discussions, actions, and events that will occur this semester as we continue to support that mission.

Highlights

NYU Wagner welcomed Distinguished Visiting Urbanist Iris Weinshall with a reception. Weinshall, a Wagner alumna, is the chief operating officer of the New York Public Library.
Associate Professor of Economics and Public Service Tatiana Homonoff has been elected as a representative to the APPAM Policy Council.
Director of the Rudin Center for Transportation and Associate Professor of Public Service Sarah Kaufman has been a highly sought after expert as New York City rolled out congestion pricing in early January, appearing in a number of local and national media outlets.

Events

For the 20th consecutive year, NYU will commemorate Dr. King’s visit to the University Heights campus in 1961 and honor his legacy by hosting a series of special events during MLK Week (Feb. 3–7, 2025) and throughout February.
In partnership with IPK and The NYU John Brademas Center, NYU Wagner will host author Julian Zelizer for a book talk on In Defense of Partisanship on Wednesday, February 5.
The annual Health Equity Today event will be held on Friday, February 7, featuring a panel of health equity experts discussing “The Place Principle,” how location can impact health outcomes, access to care, and overall well being.
The NYU Center on International Cooperation is hosting “We Need to Talk About Housing:" A Discussion on What’s Working and What’s Not in the Face of Extreme Housing Inequalities on Wednesday, February 12, discussing global housing systems.
Join the Office of International Programs and the Development Research Institute on Thursday, February 13, for India in the Global Economy: The Next Decade with Professor Arvind Panagariya.
