2014 Scientific Meetings
From June 1-5, AFAR hosted our annual trio of Scientific Meetings at the Four Seasons Biltmore in Santa Barbara, California. First, the New Investigator Awards in Alzheimer’s Disease grantees convened to share insights from their research, followed by engaging poster sessions and expert presentations at the 27th Annual AFAR Grantee Conference, and concluding with the 5th annual Paul F. MetLife Foundation Awards On May 15, the 28th annual MetLife Foundation Awards for Medical Research, which AFAR administers, were held at MetLife’s Sky Auditorium. This year, for their outstanding contributions to Alzheimer’s disease research, MetLife Foundation gave a total of $600,000 to major awardees Mathias Jucker, PhD; Lary C. Walker, PhD; and Riqiang Yan, PhD; and to Promising Research awardee Jie Shen, PhD. Learn more about the awardee’s research and the event's panel discussion and guest speaker here.

Aging & Exercise Webinar Registration is now open for our free Webinar | Muscles & Moves: The Science of Aging and Exercise on Tuesday, July 29th at 3 pm EST. | 20 Years of MSTAR This year, AFAR is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Medical Student Training in Aging Research (MSTAR) Program. Since 1994, the MSTAR program has provided nearly 2000 scholarships nationwide to introduce talented medical students to the health needs of older adults. Contributions to strengthen and expand this unique program can be made here.
