The Mississippi Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church is excited to announce a search for an executive assistant to the bishop. The executive assistant will be responsible for providing high-level administrative support to the resident bishop. The person in this role will collaborate with internal and external partners to schedule and offer meeting and travel coordination support. The Mississippi Conference is seeking candidates who are proficient at formatting and writing documents, developing and distributing meeting materials, facilitating travel arrangements and creating and maintaining expense reports and budgets. This position involves 10 - 15% travel throughout the conference area and for general and jurisdictional meetings. Email resume and cover letter to: jobs@gcfa.org

The Mississippi Annual Conference, the cabinet and episcopal leader, Bishop Sharma D. Lewis affirmed the recommendation of the Implementation District Realignment Team (IDRT) to reduce conference districts from seven to five during a called session of annual conference Tuesday, October 29, at 7:00 p.m.

Back in September, Bishop Lewis set the 2024 Called Session of the Mississippi Annual Conference to be held virtually. The sole purpose of the called session was to receive the report and recommendation of the IDRT and vote on a reduction from seven to five districts that if passed, would become effective January 2025. There were no other actions considered or votes taken at this session. All lay members and equalizing delegates elected for the June 2024 Session of the Mississippi Annual Conference continued to serve for this special session.

There were 353 voting clergy and lay members present representing congregations across the state and the vote tally was 328 to 21 (with 4 abstentions), passing with  93 percent.

The decision comes in response to the Mississippi Conference of The United Methodist Church facing financial challenges and declining number of churches due to disaffiliation. Despite the change in numbers, there is tremendous potential for growth in the Mississippi mission field. Nearly 74 percent of Mississippians are not involved in a religious congregation. That’s over 2 million people who do not go to church according to a Religion Insight report from Mission Insight, an online demographic mapping database.

'Tis the season to be practicing for our Christmas worship services!

We'll continue to practice at 9:30 am in the Garden Room Sunday. Kids ages 3 through 5th grade are learning songs with our Music Director, David White, for the Children's Christmas service on Dec. 8 and to join the adults for the choir cantata on Dec. 15.
After our singing time, the children will move into age-appropriate Sunday School classes. We always need volunteers to aid with our kids ministry.
