Three faculty bring home CAREER awards

Three Clemson mechanical engineers received CAREER awards this year from the National Science Foundation. Assistant professors Joshua Bostic and Ethan Kung join their colleague Suyi Li in being recognized with one of the nation’s highest honors for junior faculty members.

Austin Dollar receives Chateaubriand Fellowship

Dollar, a Ph.D. student in mechanical engineering studying under Ardalan Vahidi, is receiving the Chateaubriand Fellowship and will be heading to France to conduct research for eight months.

Zucker Family Graduate Education Center in North Charleston now realizing its vision

Five students became the first graduates of the Zucker Family Graduate Education Center in May. Galen Helfter earned a master’s in digital production arts. Garrett McKay, Jason Franz, Charles Fricks and Pedro Luna received master’s degrees in mechanical engineering. The center is part of Clemson University’s Restoration Institute innovation campus in North Charleston.

South Carolina strengthened its position as a fast-rising force in advanced manufacturing as Xin Zhao became the third Clemson University faculty member in four years to win the Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineer Award from the Detroit-based professional organization SME.
