When do you listen to Classical KC the most?
During my workday, when driving, and especially in the evening -- it’s part of my routine of turning off the day and refocusing to a place of rest of recovery.
Favorite composer:
J.S. Bach! One reason I really value classical music is it helps me focus and settle my brain. Listening to his music helps me find my balance and center as well.
What excites you about classical music?
So much! When it really grabs me, I find myself in awe and wonder of what humans are capable of. In terms of the scale of human achievement, it’s like when we decided as a species to leave this planet and go to the moon, except it’s something every single one of us has a part in and we can do it in our pajamas if we want. And for as grand as it can be, it’s also completely accessible.
What recording or piece of music would you bring to a dinner party to introduce guests to classical music?
I'm thinking of the "Calvin and Hobbes" cartoon where Calvin gets really excited listening to Tchaikovsky's "1812" Overture because the firing of the cannons made him realize there’s more to classical music than he thought. I don’t know if that’s the piece I would pick, but that’s the effect I would want to have: whatever you think classical music is, it is so much more and there is something here for you.
