Dear Faculty, Administrators and Staff,
We are delighted to share important information regarding the 2026-27 sabbatical application process. Sabbaticals offer faculty time to advance their scholarly work, but they can also provide a valuable opportunity – singularity of focus. Faculty are able to engage in activity that balances analytical depth and reflective thinking. Applications must be submitted through Faculty Success, with eligibility demonstrated according to the Faculty Guide.
Sabbaticals are awarded for a specific year applied, and deferrals require additional approval. The number of sabbaticals awarded each year depends on the University's financial situation and resources, though the primary criteria will continue to be the relative scholarly merit and impact of the project. Faculty should carefully consider whether a one-semester or a full-year sabbatical best suits their project’s needs, as the merits of the project will be evaluated in relation to its proposed duration. Once accepted, sabbaticals must be completed as approved.

August 12, 2026: Sabbatical Application Acknowledgment Form
Submit this form to indicate that you are anticipating submitting a Sabbatical Application. Based on the information provided, you will be sent the link to the application in Faculty Success. If you have questions regarding this form, please contact Kaerielle Larsen in the Office of the Provost.
October 1, 2026: Application due to your department. The deadline for submitting the application to the school or department for a sabbatical is October 1 of the year preceding the academic year in which the leave is to be taken.
At the completion of a sabbatical: The faculty member must submit a sabbatical report to your department, Dean and the Provost via Faculty Success. A sabbatical is considered a serious investment on the part of all concerned, so faculty are encouraged to prepare a detailed report in a professional style, suitable for presentation to internal and external audiences.
Faculty interested in applying for a sabbatical should first review the full application procedures, then submit the acknowledgment form. We look forward to receiving and reviewing your proposals.
