In the Fort Wayne market, Sarkes Tarzian owns AC/WAJI (95.1fm, Fort Wayne), Classic Hits/WLDE (101.7fm, Fort Wayne) and Alternative/WAJI-HD2 (95.1fm-HD2, Fort Wayne), also heard on W258BY (99.5fm, Fort Wayne). When the sale closes, Sarkes' Fort Wayne portfolio will comprise of one of the strongest FM signals in the market (Class B "Majic 95.1"), along with two Class As (101.7fm, 102.3fm) and the FM translator at 99.5fm.
Let's detail some WGBJ history: Three Amigo's purchased what was then WXTW ("Extreme 102.3") from Summit City Radio Group in 2006 for $1.35 million. Since then, WGBJ mostly aired a Spanish format, except for a brief foray into CHR ("B102.3", "Power 102.3") in he late 2000s and early 2010s. WGBJ derived their call letters from the original Three Amigo's owners: George Kotsopoulos, Bob Britt, and John Henry. Hear the WGBJ sign-on in August 2006 (our tape recorder was there!)
Mr. Jackson tells industry trade publication RBR+TVBR that he will move the current Regional Mexican format on 102.3fm to another frequency that he's buying. Broker on this transaction was Beth Griffin (Griffin Media Partners).

Charles Haines died last week (September 29). Mr. Haines was 93, and was one of the first (perhaps the first) African-Americans that worked full-time at a U.S. television station. Mr. Haines' broadcasting career began at WTTS radio, and he also later worked for WTTV-TV, and WLWI-TV (today, it's WTHR-TV). Mr. Haines retired in 2001 after a 53 year broadcasting career. Visitation will be Saturday October 6 at G.C. Williams Funeral Home, 1935 W. Broadway Street, Louisville, Kentucky 40203. Visitation will be from 9am until 11am, with a service at 11am. Visitation and services were held earlier today in Indianapolis. Here's the obituary.
Southwest
The Lloyd Expressway moves vehicles on an east-west route through Evansville, and it's a 14 mile long route.
On Monday morning at 10am (Central Time), Midwest Communications' WLFW (93.5fm, Chandler) flipped formats from Classic Country ("93.5 Duke FM") to Country, as "93.5 The Lloyd" under GM Tim Huelsing and PD Ron Allen. Mr. Allen serves on the programming staff for Midwest Communications, based at their Nashville, Tennessee cluster. The WLFW call letters (which pertained to a prior country format "The Wolf") also changed to WLYD. "Your Road to Hot Country" plans on adding an airstaff in the future. Finally, here's their new website.
