The survey will close at 9 a.m. Monday.

How to keep your immune system strong

If you need motivation to pursue healthy habits, remember that they help support our immune system to fight any type of infection, including COVID-19. A Preventing the spread of the coronavirus article from Harvard Health Publishing includes COVID-19 prevention tips as well as this summary of everyday healthy-living strategies:
  • Don't smoke or vape. (For free, confidential support, see Nazareth’s Help Quitting.)
  • Eat a diet high in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.
  • Take a multivitamin if you suspect that you may not be getting all the nutrients you need through your diet.
  • Exercise regularly.
  • Maintain a healthy weight.
  • Control your stress level.
  • Control your blood pressure.
  • If you drink alcohol, drink only in moderation (no more than one to two drinks a day for men, no more than one a day for women).
  • Get enough sleep.
  • Take steps to avoid infection, such as washing your hands frequently and trying not to touch your hands to your face, since harmful germs can enter through your eyes, nose, and mouth.

COVID alert level

  • Our campus alert level continues to be 2, which indicates modified operations due to case levels in the area around campus.
  • Details: Campus COVID-19 Alert Levels.

Reminders

COVID-19 surveillance testing continues to test a randomly selected portion of the campus each week. Check your email each Thursday to see if you’ve been chosen for testing on the following Monday/Tuesday. More details: Surveillance Testing.
As always, anyone with symptoms or close contact with someone who tests positive follows a different protocol that starts with filling out your Nazareth online screening (if you filled it out earlier in the day, you can re-do it) and following the instructions.

6-word stories

Confidence, bravery, humanity, and curiosity are among the themes in 6-word stories submitted by our Naz community about how we will emerge in 2021:

Confident in ourselves and in others.

Questions of the week

Can I have a friend or family member over to my dorm?

Yes, during visitor hours. As listed on the Visitor webpage, permitted visitors during 2020-21 include up to 2 guests from off campus (such as family members) of a resident student in the residence hall or Dining Commons between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m. (No overnight guests are permitted.) No spectators/fans can gather at athletic practices, scrimmages, or events, per New York state guidelines.
All visitors must complete these two steps:
  • Register at least 24 hours in advance.
  • And then fill out the visitor screening (sent to the visitor via email two hours before the scheduled arrival). Details and the registration link are on the Visitor webpage.
If the visitor is from a state beyond the states that border New York, then New York State’s travel advisory rule requires two negative COVID tests on a specific timeline, with a 3-day quarantine in New York state between tests.

What are the options in the Dining Commons (Lourdes and Kearney) for people with food allergies and other dietary restrictions?

For details about individual dining stations — Simple Servings, Rustic Root, My Zone, and more — see Dietary and Allergen Options.
