Alexander Brown Acclaimed Chair of the Toronto District School Board

Trustee Alexander Brown was acclaimed Chair of the Toronto District School Board on Monday, Nov. 16, during the Board’s annual Organizational Meeting. Chair Brown was first elected in 2014 as the Trustee for Ward 12 (Willowdale) and as Chair of the Board in August 2020 during a Special Board Meeting. Trustee Christopher Mammoliti was elected as Vice Chair.

TDSB Opposes Government’s Decision to Revoke Ranked Ballots

On behalf of the Toronto District School Board, Chair Alexander Brown wrote to Premier Doug Ford and Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing Steve Clark to express the Board’s deep concerns about the recent amendment to the Municipal Elections Act, which revokes the power to hold ranked ballot votes for municipal elections. This includes the election of public school board trustees.

TDSB to Expunge Suspension Records for Young Students

Trustees with the Toronto District School Board have unanimously voted to expunge discretionary suspensions from the Ontario Student Record and Caring and Safe Schools Database of students who were suspended in Kindergarten to Grade 3.

Trustees also directed staff to identify systemic work that can be done to continue the Board’s commitment to addressing and interrupting bias and discrimination which may place certain groups of students at a disadvantage based on student discipline records in student Ontario Student Records.

COVID-19 Advisories

The Toronto District School Board provides up to date information about confirmed cases of COVID-19 in schools (students and staff). This information is easily accessible by clicking on the COVID-19 Advisories banner on the main webpage of www.tdsb.on.ca.

Please note that all schools where there is a confirmed case of COVID-19 will receive a letter from Toronto Public Health to inform them about the possible exposure.
