Astrophysicist researches the Christmas star

When companies fire auditor, timing is clue of trouble

When a company and its auditor split up, it can be a sign of trouble in the books. Two accounting professors found that the later in the year the break-up occurs, the more worried investors should be. The Wall Street Journal interviewed 
Jeffrey Burks, the Thomas and Therese Grojean Family Associate Professor of Accountancy and the Deloitte Faculty Fellow, about the study he co-authored. (Article)
