July 17, 2024
On July 7 we began a new worship series at 10:45, focusing on the wisdom of the church. After a year-long emphasis on the wisdom of scripture, we are celebrating a month devoted to hearing the wisdom some of our church family have gleaned over the years in their own faith journey. Rev. Dawn Douglas Flowers kicked it off Sunday, July 7, and was outstandingly followed by Branden Henry on July 14. This week we are proud to welcome Shelley Powers, and then Bill Flynn will lead us July 28.
We hope this series inspires you to reflect on your own faith journey and what wisdom you have received and hope to pass on from your own experience as part of the body of Christ.
This will be our famous shrimp boil! Other foods will be provided for those who don't eat shrimp. We need cookers (shrimp boil pots, propane burners, and volunteer cooks). Contact Jean Dunn if you can help.
Rev. Haven Boyd was elected at the 2024 Mississippi Annual Conference as an alternate delegate for the 2024 Southeastern Jurisdictional Conference in Lake Junaluska, NC. Below she tells of her experience at the conference.
Forward in Faith – the Southeastern Jurisdictional Conference of the United Methodist Church

It was a joy representing Parkway Hills and the Mississippi Annual Conference at the Southeastern Jurisdictional Conference July 9-12. We convened at Lake Junaluska with over 400 delegates from 14 annual conferences as we spent time in worship and fellowship. We focused on how beautiful and important our connection is as we continue the journey moving forward as United Methodists. The Racial Bias task force reported important findings along with sharing vulnerable stories of the harm and hurt racism and implicit biases have caused within our conferences. As we go forward, we affirm that intentional conversations and actions need to take place for healing and inclusion so that all may feel invited and welcomed.

Gulfside Assembly shared a short viewing of its new documentary, “The Gulfside Assembly Story.” The documentary tells of the history of Gulfside Assembly and how it has served as a “sanctuary by the sea” for African Americans during segregation and the civil rights movements. Gulfside Assembly plans to share this documentary across the MS Annual Conference and beyond, so keep an eye out for a viewing in our Jackson Metro area.

We celebrated the retirement of Bishop Bill McAlilly, as he and his wife are excited to return back to Mississippi. And we celebrate that Bishop Lewis will be returning to the MS Conference for four more years. She is delighted to be back home in MS and continue the work of making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

Thank you again for your support and your prayers during this experience.
