On January 18th, The American University community came together to honor the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. for AU's annual MLK Day of Service. Throughout the day, we came together to honor Dr. King's memory and to actively contribute to positive change in our communities, fostering a deeper commitment to civic life through dialogue, reflection, and collective action. Over 100 community members engaged in service both on and off campus, supporting our 11 nonprofit partners and countless DC community members. Service activities included making no-sew blankets, writing letters of encouragement for women recently diagnosed with breast cancer, creating pillowcases to support first responders, and packing study snack packs for local students.
