Veterans Monument Groundbreaking

The Ken-Caryl Ranch Veterans Monument will be located at the southeast corner of Crestone Mountain and Sangre de Cristo Road. The Veterans Monument Committee anticipates breaking ground on Monday, April 20 at noon (please note the date change from what was originally published in Life at Ken-Caryl). The committee has received a full set of construction drawings along with all the necessary specifications and details for the monument from its architect, David Snelson. These drawings have been used to lay out a full-size “footprint” of the monument on the site using flags and ground paint. Donations can be made to the Veterans Monument or Honor Bricks can be purchased. If you would like to donate or to view the construction drawings for the monument, see the Veterans Monument page on our website.

Music, Frisbee Golf, Zumba, Fire Trucks, Gymnastics, Food Truck and Fun at Spring Fling on April 25

Join the Ken-Caryl Ranch Metropolitan District and the Ken-Caryl Parent Network in celebrating spring and Earth Day on Saturday, April 25 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Ranch House Park! We’ll have family-friendly Earth Day activities all day. You can also enter the family Frisbee Golf tournament hosted by the Ken-Caryl Ranch Foundation at 11 a.m., catch Music for Kids by Eric West at noon, learn about our open space and KC Nature programs, check out the fire trucks and fire safety information from West Metro Fire Department and the Colorado State Forest Service, or do some yoga, Zumba or Kindermusik on the stage. The Little Gym will be there with activities and a chance to win a birthday party for your child. There will also be a food truck, Dude with the Food, so you can purchase lunch for your family. There will be plenty of ways to get dirty and get back to nature!

Adult Hike with a Naturalist

Join the KC Nature staff for a nature hike in the Ken-Caryl Ranch trail system on Lost Canyon, Shaffer and Manor House Trails on Friday, April 17 from 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Meet at Dakota Lodge, and make sure to wear proper shoes and layers and bring a day pack with water, sunscreen, and a snack. The hike is for ages 18 and up and is $6 for residents or $8 for non-residents. There's no pre-registration, so just bring money on the day of the hike. Adult nature hikes will be offered throughout the summer. See our KC Nature page for details.

At Home Alone Course

Does your child spend a few hours home alone before or after school due to your work schedule or other commitments? If so, sign your child up for the At Home Alone course on Saturday, April 25 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Ranch House. This popular, entertaining workshop is designed to prepare children ages 10-13 to look after themselves during these times. Students learn how to stay safe through interactive lessons, role play and hands-on training. Every Kidproof course is non-threatening and empowering. The cost is $40 for a resident or $50 for a non-resident. Register for Course No. 29854 online or by calling 303-979-4070.

Family Program: Nesting Great Horned Owls

These common, magnificent predators are one of the first birds to start nesting in Ken-Caryl. By this time of year the chicks are big enough to move around outside of the nest. Join the KC Nature staff for the Nesting Great Horned Owls program on Friday, May 1 from 6-7:30 p.m. at Dakota Lodge to see if you can spot these big fluffy creatures while also learning some interesting facts. All ages are welcome, and the fee is $10 for a resident adult, $8 for a resident youth (3-18 years) or $30 for a resident family of four. Register for Course No. 29977 online or by calling 303-979-4070.

Ken-Caryl Ranch Swim Club

The Ken-Caryl Ranch Lightning Swim Club invites you to join its competitive/recreational summer club team that trains until the end of July. Competition is grouped by ages 8 & under, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14 and 15-18. Participants are required to have skills in at least two of the four competitive strokes. Swimmers will be taught to improve and refine skills in all competitive strokes. This Swim Club is not a learn-to-swim program. Swim Club online registration is now open at www.kcswimclub.com and regular registration will be April 18 from 1-3 p.m. at the Ken-Caryl Ranch Community Center. If you have any questions, contact Jim Bartuska at KCSwimming@gmail.com.

Pregnancy Fitness Class

Have you been waiting to get motivated to work out during your pregnancy? You've heard all the benefits of working out, from easier labor to less pregnancy weight gain, but you are just struggling to fit in that workout. The Ken-Caryl Ranch Metro District wants to know if there is interest in offering a pregnancy fitness class designed by a pregnant mom to help encourage you to get that workout into your routine, while connecting with other pregnant mamas. The class would focus on strengthening the body for all the changes you will experience during pregnancy. If you would be interested in a class like this, please contact personal trainer Nichelle Gurule at nichelle.gurule@gmail.com.
