Phelps, recipient of the 2006 Nobel Prize in Economics, is McVickar Professor Emeritus of Political Economy and Director of the Center on Capitalism and Society at Columbia University. Born in 1933, he spent his childhood in Chicago and, from age six, grew up in Hastings-on Hudson, N.Y. He attended public schools, earned his B.A. from Amherst (1955) and got his Ph.D. at Yale (1959).

His most recent books are Mass Flourishing (2013); with Raicho Bojilov, Hian Teck Hoon and Gylfi Zoega, Dynamism (2020); My Journeys in Economic Theory (2023); and with Hian Teck Hoon and Gylfi Zoega, The Great Economic Slowdown (2023).
|
This is a unique opportunity to engage with a Nobel laureate and delve into the thoughts and ideas that have shaped economic discourse. The Office of the President and the Office of the Provost are proud sponsors of this event.

Countdown to Canvas
As we near the end of the semester, view key transition dates and 10 essential steps to prepare for a smooth and seamless transition from Blackboard to Canvas.

- November 13: Access Winter 2024 and Spring 2024 course shells, including migrated content from Winter 2023 and Spring 2023.
- December 21: Any changes made to Blackboard courses after this date will not be archived.
- December 29: Last day to access Blackboard. Data will not be retrievable after this date.

Faculty Innovation Grants: Proposal Deadline Extended
The deadline to submit a proposal for the 2023-2024 Traditional Faculty Innovation Grants (FIGs) has been extended to November 30, 2023. With the help of the TLTC, FIGs support faculty in creating and implementing innovative technology-infused teaching materials for upcoming courses at Seton Hall, with a plan for ongoing use in future semesters.

Sister Rose Thering Fund to Commemorate Kristallnacht on Thursday, November 9
The Sister Rose Thering Fund for Education in Jewish-Christian Studies will present an outdoor program on Thursday, November 9 on the University Green at 5 p.m. to commemorate the 85th anniversary of Kristallnacht, or the Night of Broken Glass. Program includes speakers, music and reflection on an event may consider the first atrocity of the Holocaust. The entire Seton Hall community is invited to take part. Learn more and register.

Course Release Applications for Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 Semesters
The Office of the Provost is happy to continue its competitive process for full-time faculty to apply for a 3-credit course release from their usual teaching load. This release will afford faculty additional time to augment or complete ongoing research, scholarship, or grant projects. Consideration will be given to the faculty member’s teaching load and scholarly accomplishments in previous academic years. These releases are available to all departments. We are accepting applications for Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 semester. View the criteria and application process.
