Fill Out the Second Annual CSU AI Survey | Open now through October 19 | CSU AI Survey
SJSU students, faculty, and staff are invited to participate in the second annual CSU AI Survey, which examines how generative AI is shaping the CSU campus community and what needs and opportunities should inform future planning. The anonymous survey takes less than 10 minutes to complete. Whether or not you currently use AI in your classes, office, research, or laboratory, your perspective is welcome. Faculty across the CSU are invited to express interest in joining a systemwide community of practice focused on artificial intelligence. - SJSU Students Build AI Solutions at CSU Summer Camp | Read more
Twenty SJSU students recently participated in a CSU summer camp focused on developing AI solutions. Hosted by the Cal Poly Digital Transformation Hub (DxHub), in partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS), the five-day camp gave students an opportunity to apply their technical skills and AI-based concepts to solve real-world challenges in higher education. | Read more about their experience.

This CSU live webcast, presented by the Department of Research, will feature presentations on AI models, agents and intelligent systems; biological computing and programmable living systems; AI in research and qualitative methods; and emerging AI applications in research and education. The Demystify AI Masterclass Series brings together experts from across SJSU to unpack emerging technologies, move beyond buzzwords, and build a clearer understanding of how AI tools work and where they are headed. The first session, “Introduction to Quantum Computing: From Algorithm to Hardware,” will be led by Dr. Hiu Yung Wong, Professor and AMDT Endowed Chair in the Department of Electrical Engineering. SJSU Career Center Launches Hiration | Faculty and instructor FAQ
The SJSU Career Center has launched Hiration, an AI-powered platform that helps students strengthen résumés, tailor application materials, and practice interview skills. Faculty can access Hiration through SJSU single sign-on and may assign résumé or mock-interview activities in their courses. The Career Center has also developed faculty and instructor FAQs with information about the platform, suggested uses, and available support.

Deeper Learning Then and Now: Past Lessons and Future Directions in the Age of AI | October 6, 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. | FREE EVENT
The IAEP Center at San José State University will host the next installment of its Thinking Through AI for Deeper Learning webinar series. Dr. Brent Duckor and Dr. Carrie Holmberg will moderate a conversation with deeper-learning scholars Dr. Jal Mehta and Dr. Sarah Fine. The discussion will revisit lessons from efforts to create schools and classrooms where students engage in ambitious intellectual work, drawing on Mehta and Fine’s book In Search of Deeper Learning. The speakers will then consider how generative AI may challenge or reshape established ideas about productive struggle, student agency, authenticity, development, and evidence of learning, drawing on AI and Deeper Learning: Promises, Paradoxes & Evolving Practices. How do we build human values into technology rather than bolting them on afterward? In this interactive workshop opening the ai-et Speaker Series, Larry Medsker, editor of Springer’s AI and Ethics Handbook and co-founder of the journal AI and Ethics, offers a practical framework for determining which commitments must be built into an AI system’s architecture and which are familiar habits that can change. A short talk is followed by small-group work on real cases on Agentic AI and Accountability and Generative AI in Writing, Journalism, and Schools that bring humanities, technical, and industry perspectives into direct conversation.

Rage Baiting and Border Crossing: How AI/LLMs complicate Translation. | College of Humanities and the Arts ai-et Speaker Series | November 3rd, 4:00 – 5:30 p.m. | MLK 225 | FREE EVENT
Rage bait prompts audience engagement by provoking anger. Torsa Ghosal’s talk compares “rage bait” narratives about border crossing generated by Large Language Models (LLMs) in two different languages: English and Bengali. Because LLMs are incapable of registering the cultural codes embedded in language, their mis-translations create problems, especially for non-English languages. Join us to discover how the spread of LLMs is impacting translation, migration narratives, and the preservation of world languages.
