Take Me Out to the Ballgame!

While National Skilled Nursing Care Week and National Nurses Week ~ both in May ~ are about lifting up staff dedicated to these professions, our staff chose to celebrate residents as well. Together, those who provide daily care as well as those who call LCC home, celebrated by participating in fun, theme-based activities.

Together Through the Seasons was the theme for NSNCW. On the day designated to celebrate All Things Summer residents enjoyed tasty ice cream delivered by this special truck.
On Sports Day, residents and staff pulled out their team-related gear and enjoyed fun activities, ball park hot dogs and stadium music.

Families, Residents and Staff Gather in a Beautiful Place

How does one begin to process all that has taken place over the past year and a half?  For residents, families and staff at Lutheran Care Center one powerful response was to provide a beautiful space for reflection.  The Memory Garden concept was conceived by Cherie Shafer Ferguson, Nurse Supervisor.  Her organizational skills, along with the hard work of a dedicated committee of volunteer staff, gave way to a huge upgrade of the North Atrium.  The design includes tributes to those who have passed ~ residents, staff and family members. An engraved plaque also commemorates the heroic efforts of the LCC Staff as well as our community emergency services providers.

The Memory Garden was dedicated on Saturday, June 19, 2021~ a glorious, sunny morning.  Many residents participated, including the recently re-organized LCC Chime Choir under the direction of music therapist Christina Tadin. Their chime renditions of Somewhere Over the Rainbow and Amazing Grace were moving. Attendees joined in on the chorus. The final song, You’ll Never Walk Alone, was led by Christina on guitar.  The poignant words to each of these songs touched many hearts and brought tears to some.

Thoughtful reflections were shared by administrators. Colorful butterflies, drawn by daughters of staff members, landed on our walkways . Balloons, new plantings, a butterfly birdbath, birdhouses hanging from trees and a fountain offering the peaceful sound of trickling water provided a perfect setting for all to not only reflect but also look forward in hope.

Families took time to share their memories with one another. Many had purchased plaques in honor of their loved one.  Mary Ann Bolde and daughter Tammy Chenevert (pictured below on left) near the plaque in memory of husband and father, Floyd W. Bolde,  an antique car enthusiast and beloved bus driver. Refreshments were served while guests lingered to enjoy the beauty and an opportunity to be together outdoors.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has once again rated Lutheran Care Center with an Overall Five-Star Rating. Nursing homes with 5 stars are considered to have much above average quality. This is a reflection of the professional care and dedication evident on a daily basis.  If you know of someone who might benefit from Rehabilitation, Long Term Care, Adult Day Health Care (soon to re-open) or our Adult Foster Care Program, please direct them, or a family member, to our website or invite them to talk with an informed person on our admission team.
