Martin Siderius named interim Dean of MCECS
|
Martin Siderius has been appointed to serve as interim Dean of the Maseeh College of Engineering and Computer Science (MCECS), effective July 1, 2026. He will oversee MCECS's academic programs, research enterprise, faculty affairs and student success initiatives while a national search for a permanent dean is conducted. Since joining PSU in 2008, Siderius has demonstrated exceptional dedication to MCECS's mission. He served as Chair of Electrical and Computer Engineering from 2020–2025 and most recently as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. He was awarded the Maseeh Professorship in 2019 in recognition of his contributions to research, teaching and service. An internationally recognized scholar in ocean acoustics, Siderius is a Fellow of the Acoustical Society of America. His research has been supported by the Office of Naval Research and the National Science Foundation, and he is a recipient of the Acoustical Society's Medwin Prize in Acoustical Oceanography.

PSUFA ratifies tentative contract through 2029 |
PSUFA members ratified the new agreement with Portland State on Friday, May 15. The new contract will be in effect until June 30, 2029. This agreement was reached after many hours of hard work and negotiation by both teams and recognizes the important contributions of PSUFA-represented faculty members, while also supporting the university’s future sustainability and success. The parties are working on creating a new contract document and creating implementation resources. In the meantime, the full compiled versions of the tentative agreements are available on OAA’s bargaining update webpage. Last chance! Participate in the campus safety survey |
PSU researchers, in collaboration with the Campus Public Safety Office (CPSO), are conducting the third annual survey to gather feedback from students, faculty and staff about their experiences with CPSO and safety on campus. Recommended by the Reimagine Campus Public Safety Committee, the survey aims to inform CPSO’s safety practices and policies. Results will be shared publicly next academic year, potentially influencing safety improvements on campus. The survey closes this Sunday, May 24.

New requirements to protect PSU data |
To combat evolving cyber threats and align with expanding regulatory requirements, the Office of Information Technology (OIT) is updating the PSU Endpoint Security Standard. The changes include new requirements for desktop and laptop computers that are used to conduct high-risk activities like performing financial transactions, or for accessing confidential or restricted PSU data.
The good news is that most PSU-owned desktop and laptop computers already meet these requirements and won't need to change a thing! Please read the Protecting PSU Data blog post to learn more about these changes, identify if you are impacted by this change, and what to do if you are.

Help rename the street in front of the Native American community center |
In October 2024, the Portland City Council unanimously approved a resolution to rename a three-block stretch of SW Jackson Street to SW Rose Hill Street. Located outside PSU’s Native American Student and Community Center (NASCC), the change honors Itway Rose Hill, a revered leader and educator in Portland’s Native community.
PSU must now collect 2,500 signatures by June 14, 2026. Any Portland resident can sign.

Take the OHSU survey on leave support |
This week, PSU employees will receive an email from OHSU inviting them to participate in the second of three surveys about work-life balance and leave support. It is a project in collaboration with PSU Human Resources.
Employees can participate even if they did not complete the first survey in February. You also do not need to have taken leave or supervised someone taking leave. The research team wants to hear from everyone.
Individual responses are strictly confidential and will only be seen by the OHSU research team. PSU will receive aggregated data only. Human Resources will use the data to inform improvements to leave processes and supervisor training, which are among the key recommendations that PSU Human Resources is pursuing as part of Operational Excellence.
Thank you to the hundreds of employees who completed the first survey. The final survey will be sent this fall. If you have questions about the survey, contact Julia Goodman, associate professor and principal investigator, at goodmanj@ohsu.edu.

Reminder: Tuition discount forms due by June 20 |
This is a reminder that Staff Fee (employee tuition discount) forms are due two days before the start of the term. Your staff fee form can be uploaded beginning this Friday, May 22. For summer term, Staff Fee Forms for use at PSU should be uploaded on the Human Resources webpage by the end of day Saturday, June 20. Deadlines for the other Oregon universities vary. Please check their websites for more details.
Please keep in mind that summer session courses begin at varying dates and times depending on the course. For the tuition discount in Summer, please use the deadlines mentioned above to ensure your tuition discount is processed.

The tournament is free for Campus Rec members, and members may bring guests at the daily rate of $9 per person.
