Theresa Beiner selected as newest dean of Bowen

Theresa Beiner, a nationally recognized law professor for innovative teaching and scholarship, has been selected after a national search as the first permanent female dean of the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. She will assume the deanship July 1, 2018, succeeding John DiPippa, who will step down as interim dean on June 30.
“The central Arkansas community is fortunate to have an accomplished teacher-scholar agree to lead our Bowen Law School,” said UA Little Rock Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost Velmer Burton. “She brings a wealth of insight and experience to her new role at UA Little Rock that will prove valuable to Bowen’s students, faculty, alumni, and the legal community.”

Flannery named next Associate Dean for Academic Affairs

Professor Michael Flannery will become the next Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at the UA Little Rock William H. Bowen School of Law.
Professor Flannery joined the law school in 2003 and was named the Judge George Howard, Jr. Distinguished Professor of Law in 2010. He served as Associate Dean for Faculty Development from 2014 to 2016.
“Michael is an excellent colleague, and he is committed to Bowen’s success,” said John DiPippa, dean of the law school. “He will be an outstanding Associate Dean.”

Reduced Registration Rate for Symposium

The registration rate for the 2018 Altheimer Symposium has been reduced to $50 for all attendees. The Symposium is approved for 5.5 hours of General CLE.

The Bowen School of Law has been named a 2018 Best Public Interest Law School Interest by National Jurist preLaw Magazine. The ranking appears in the Winter 2018 edition.

Recent Endowed Scholarships
Family of Donna Galchus endows $25,000 scholarship in her memory
The Donna S. Galchus Endowed Law Memorial Scholarship was recently created by the family of Donna Galchus, who passed away in December 2016.
Galchus graduated from Bowen in 1980 and was a founding member of Cross, Gunter, Witherspoon & Galchus, where she practiced labor and employment law and immigration law.
The scholarship will benefit female students of Bowen interested in pursuing careers in labor and employment law.

Judge Vicki and Dr. Ken Cook endow $10,000 book award
Judge Vicki ('82) and Dr. Ken Cook have endowed a book award at $10,000 to help Bowen students - namely single parents - with costs associated with their legal education.
Judge Cook sat as a Circuit Judge for the 18th East Judicial District for 22 years before retiring December 2014. Many families in her court were single parents and the children she represented during her 10 years of law practice were raised by single parents.

Barbara Womack, '82, was recently appointed circuit judge for the 22nd Judicial Circuit by Gov. Asa Hutchinson. She is the first woman appointed as a circuit judge in Saline County.
Jason Hendren, '97, has been elected into partnership at Wright Lindsey Jennings. His practice spans the state of Arkansas and the healthcare industry through his defense of hospital systems, pharmacies and long-term care facilities, as well as individual physicians, physician assistants, CRNAs, nurses, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, ophthalmologists, podiatrists, dentists and orthodontists. He currently serves on Bowen's Dean’s Advisory Council and is a past president of the Alumni Board of Directors.
Associate Dean for Faculty Development Terrence Cain, '99, has received the William H. Bowen School of Law 2018 Faculty Excellence Award for Public Service.
Crystal Halley, '07, has been appointed Assistant Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at the University of Arkansas at Monticello. Since 2007, she has been the Director of Academic Advising at UAM. She is also an adjunct instructor in the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences, the School of Business and the Division of General Studies.
Melissa Bandy, '11, has been named a member of the Mitchell Williams Selig Gates & Woodyard law firm. Her practice advises clients in commercial transactions including lending, real estate, public finance, corporate governance, entity formation and general business matters.
Sidney Leasure, '13, joined Wright Lindsey Jennings as an associate attorney. Her practice areas include banking & secured transactions, corporate & securities, estate planning, mergers & acquisitions, partnership & taxation, and real estate.
