"A strong foundation in the humanities, arts and sciences are more important than ever. Absolutely we want to assist our students in preparing for the world of work. But even more than that, we want to prepare them to be successful in life and to be comfortable in the wider world into which they will be stepping."
In his blog, "More work to do," Dean Hershock reflects on the transformative education the College provides.
CASL faculty, students and alumni are involved in a variety of
classes, research, activities and philanthropy,
and are making an impact locally, regionally and nationally.
Fun and exciting Homecoming activities will run October 26-29, including the Alumni Difference Makers awards ... honoring CASL alumni MaryAnn Wright ('84), Leah Johnson-Olajide ('11) and Jeffrey Golota ('85).
Everything we do in CASL supports the success of our students. We provide experiences in the classroom, out in the field and around the world. You support these efforts by funding scholarships, collaborative research, study abroad opportunities and hands-on learning.
For example, gifts to the CASL Annual Fund were used to provide support for the University's Global Brigade trip in May to Honduras, where students and faculty advisor, Marilee Benore, worked with an international aid organization to provide health screenings, demonstrate preventative care and treat sickness.
The Victors for UM-Dearborn campaign has accomplished so much already—$34.6M has been raised with more than $20M dedicated to student support alone, including 100 new scholarships.
But we can’t stop now. There is much more to be done to address still-pressing needs on campus and to fulfill our campaign goals of Student Support, Educational Initiatives, Learning Environments and Faculty Support.
