Dr. Mirghassemi Chosen to the CCE Community Engaged Research Workshop Series
Congratulations to Dr. Felicia Mirghassemi for being chosen to the CCE Community Engaged Research Workshop Series! Dr. Mirghassemi demonstrates a high value for translating research-based education into practical application in the community. She consistently integrates community engaged projects into the courses she teaches for the master’s degree programs in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and School Counseling.
In her course on research and program evaluation, the students develop program evaluation proposals utilizing quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods approaches to help community non-profits such as the Jack Staggs Counseling Clinic, which is also part of the Department of Counselor Education, Yes to Youth, Mosaics, Bridgeway Youth Shelter, and Rise & Inspire Counseling. The community engaged projects help students see how their educational experiences can benefit the community and grow their confidence in creating value for organizations in the future.
Recently, students in her research methods course presented their program evaluations conducted on behalf of community non-profit organizations at the Texas Association of School Counseling conference with Dr. Mirghassemi and Dr. Branch, the school counseling coordinator in SHSU’s Department of Counselor Education.
