Hidden Histories – Amplifying Underrepresented Voices Through Archives and Cataloging

Join KU Libraries for a panel discussion featuring catalogers, curators and the university archivist talking about collections from KU's Spencer Research Library that highlight the experiences of underrepresented voices in Kansas and beyond. Presented by KU Libraries and the University of Virginia's Rare Book School, discussion will focus on LGBTQ+ Zines in the Wilcox and Kansas Collections, documenting student life from underrepresented communities at KU, and revealing personal papers and family collections within Spencer Research Library. The panel will be moderated by KU Libraries' Milton Machuca-Galvez, an RBS-Mellon Cultural Heritage Fellow. The Robert Bruce Thompson Annual Student Light Fixture Design Competition
An independent student design competition for the purpose of promoting education and awareness of light fixture design.
Bruce Thompson was a twenty-five year veteran of the lighting industry. He had a broad background in the profession having worked in theatre, retail, as a factory representative, and concluding his career in manufacturing as vice president of sales and marketing. Throughout his career Bruce emphasized design and innovation. He was also an accomplished light fixture designer. He established this independent competition to encourage creativity and education in light fixture design and manufacturing.
Online submissions must be received no later than March 27, 2025 at 6PM EDT/3PM PDT.

Hippie Modernism examines the art, architecture and design of the counterculture of the 1960s and early 1970s. The catalog surveys the radical experiments that challenged societal norms while proposing new kinds of technological, ecological and political utopia. It includes the counter-design proposals of Victor Papanek and the anti-design polemics of Global Tools.
