"Creation Dreaming" references myths and folklore from around the world:
a visual blending of elements from multiple sources.  Like a dream, the various elements may not make immediate sense logically, but they present their own world for the viewer to decipher.  "Creation Dreaming" presents the universally held concept that the material world is created through dreaming:  reality is in the mind.

You sometimes dream of the butterfly,

How do you know the butterfly isn’t dreaming you?

Philosophy

I am a storyteller.
My works are a palimpsest of layered symbols and forms inviting the viewer to interact with the painting. Symbols tap into the subconscious mind.  Each meeting is unique and personal for both the viewer and the work of art.  The interaction allows both the viewer and the artwork to grow, one adding understanding to the other.  As the artist, I am simply a tool, like a brush or pencil that is employed to make a work of art manifest; as a result, my works contain a mystery that even I cannot always decipher sometimes it is good to have a little mystery in one’s life.

Volunteer of the Month:

P
SA is a non-profit organization and volunteers are extremely valuable resources for us.  I started volunteering at PSA by sending out weekly posts of Artists News and Exhibitions (thanks to Rhonda), then moved to coordinating an art fair (Storrier Stearns Japanese Garden), and now I'm working on grants for PSA.

This volunteer work has given me a chance to give something back to the community, while providing me an opportunity to develop new skills (i.e., grant writing).  The process of non-profit grant writing allows outside funders to become involved in our cause – I see this as a wonderful way to spread the word about who we are and what we do.

Off the Wall
The Artist’s Choice Online Exhibition (ACE) has been visited by 870+, and 672+ stayed to read through the presentation.  I think this is more visitors than PSA would get in a 30-day gallery exhibition.  The ACE printed catalog has been ordered and should be available for pickup in the next few weeks.

The Oil & Acrylic Exhibition is off to a good start.  Juror Rob Sherrill selected 22 artworks from the 39 entered.  Work has already begun on creating the online version of this interesting exhibition.  It will go live at ISSUU on July 15.  The Exhibition Committee thanks all of the members that submitted entries and congratulates those with artwork in the exhibition.

What’s up next?  It's the 3D Art Online Exhibition.  This exhibition is for any artwork that is three dimensional.  It can be sculpture, ceramics, assemblage or any artwork that incorporates height x width x depth or thickness.  The exhibition is scheduled to go live online September 1.  It may be a video online exhibition featuring the 3D art being rotated so the viewer is able to see all sides of the artwork, just like they would in a traditional gallery setting with the 3D object displayed on a pedestal.

Following the 3D exhibition is the 96th Annual Juried Exhibition.  It is anticipated this exhibition will be online and concurrently in a traditional gallery.  Still to be determined is whether the take-in and jury process will be online or a traditional take-in with the juror reviewing the actual art.  The 96th Annual is scheduled to go live/open October 15.  As with all previous Annuals, all media, all subject matter, and all sizes of artwork can be entered.  If there is a gallery installation, there is a good possibility of having an in-person opening reception.  That should be lots of fun!

As PSA transitions back into traditional gallery exhibitions and continues the concurrent online exhibitions, more volunteers will be needed to help at take-ins, gallery installations, receptions and gallery closings.  If you are interested, please send an email expressing your interest to: Exhibitions@PasadenaSocietyofArtists.org

Volunteering for Exhibition Committee activities is always fun and presents opportunities to meet other members and make new friends.  Most volunteer activities are only one day or part of one day in length. Please give it some serious thought.

See you soon,

The Exhibition Committee
