| Scholarly Work The St. John's Law Review has launched The Commentary as an online companion to their print publications. Two recent posts spotlight the scholarship of St. John's Law Professors Renee Nicole Allen and Anna Roberts at the intersection of racial justice and the law. Professor Allen discusses her forthcoming UCLA Law Review article, “From Academic Freedom to Cancel Culture: Silencing Black Women in the Legal Academy.” In another post, Professor Roberts talks about “Convictions As Guilt,” her article in the Fordham Law Review.
In 2017, Professor Kate Klonick’s article, "The New Governors" appeared In the Harvard Law Review, arguing that private content platforms like Facebook and Twitter should be viewed as systems of governance. Last month, the evergreen article was a top SSRN download. It was also cited in this New York Times story.
The Harvard Law Review Forum published "Meta Rules for Ordinary Meaning," Professor Anita S. Krishnakumar’s essay in response to Georgetown Law Professor Kevin Tobia’s recent Harvard Law Review article on statutory interpretation.
In “Real Insider Trading,” his article for the Washington and Lee Law Review, Professor Michael Perino reports on his empirical study of insider trading enforcement.
At the Global Summit sponsored by the International Forum on the Future of Constitutionalism, Professor Rosemary C. Salomone presented Transformative Constitutionalism: Education and Linguistic Rights in South Africa, which drew from a chapter in her forthcoming book, The Rise of English (Oxford University Press).
The Academic Advisory Board of the Getting Scholarship into Court Project has named Anna Roberts’s 2020 article, "Convictions as Guilt," a must read. As an elected member of the AALS Section on Evidence‘s Executive Committee, Professor Roberts is also co-leading an initiative to reform prior conviction impeachment.
In the Media Following the latest news about deplatforming? NBC News spotlighted Professor Kate Klonick's expert take on social media and content moderation. And, in this LA Times story, Professor Jeff Sovern said: "Twitter and other social media sites are on relatively solid ground in shutting their digital doors to some users."
Financial Planning magazine quotes Professor Christine Lazaro, who heads the Law School’s Securities Arbitration Clinic, in their latest cover story about advisor fraud. “When things go wrong, they’ll go horribly wrong,” she says. “There are a lot of people who are doing the right thing and doing the right thing for their clients. We just have to hope that the system’s going to work when someone doesn’t do the right thing.”
Dean Michael A. Simons was one of 157 law school deans from across the country to sign a statement about the 2020 election, the events that took place in the Capitol, the rule of law, and the role of lawyers that earned media attention.
