Hoops Highlights: Franklin beats Centennial in inaugural Natchez High tribute event
By Charles PulliamMultimedia Reporter

FRANKLIN – After years in the making, the Franklin and Centennial High Schools paid tribute to their historic roots by honoring the former all-Black Natchez High School on Friday night during Black History Month.

The Admirals and Cougars basketball teams played against one another in replica blue and gold jerseys based on the Natchez Panthers final season in 1967. Natchez was integrated into Franklin High later that year and the storied past is shared by both crosstown schools.

“To have this new tradition, this thing we are going to do every year to remember Franklin’s history and honor Natchez High School and their history because that’s part of Franklin history,” said Admirals coach Jason Tigert, whose No. 4-ranked team topped the Cougars 68-56 Friday.
