Welcome back! I hope this message finds you refreshed and rejuvenated after a well-deserved Spring Break. As we gear up to conclude another successful semester, it is time to acknowledge and celebrate the remarkable individuals who represent the bright future of Coppin State University – our prospective students, current scholars, and soon-to-be alumni.
Seniors join us for Gradfest, an all-encompassing event designed to cater to your needs and excitement surrounding Commencement, on Wednesday, March 27 from 10 a.m. - 7 p.m. at the Tawes Center, First Floor. From regalia fittings and photography sessions to guidance on post-graduation opportunities, our dedicated team will be there to assist you every step of the way. Do not miss out on this chance to prepare for your big day and celebrate your achievements with fellow graduates.

It was an honor to host Acting Regional Director Melissa Herd from the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services Region III, alongside Tom Harris, Regional Public Affairs Specialist, Chad Sawyer, ACF Regional Administrator, and Mr. Shondell Revell from the Office of Gun Violence Prevention at Coppin State. After spending the day touring our campus and meeting with faculty and leadership, the visiting team is looking forward to partnering with us as we work to improve the human condition not only for the Coppin communiy but for West Baltimore.

Coppin State University student Praise Alayode has been appointed as a Student Commissioner for the Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC). Governor Moore nominated Alayode for this position, marking a significant recognition of her leadership and commitment to education. Alayode's appointment highlights her dedication to representing student voices in higher education policy decisions. She appeared before Senator Hayes (Chair) and the Executive Nomination Committee of the MD State Senate, where she received commendation for her achievements. Additionally, Alayode was honored with a citation from the office of her district senator, Will Smith.

The Dr. Peg E. Daw Nurse Faculty Annual Award Recognizes 35 Maryland Nurse Faculty for Their Outstanding Service

Dr. Ihuoma Ezebuihe (not pictured), Dr. Miriam Washington, Dr. Lori Harvin, and Dr. Charlotte Wood have been honored as recipients of the prestigious Dr. Peg E. Daw Nurse Faculty Annual Recognition Award, with everyone awarded $10,000 in recognition of their outstanding contributions and dedication to the field. These women are not only profound thought-leaders, they are a part of the cornerstone that elevates Coppin's Nursing program to a top the Best in Maryland and the nation.

Jordan Coleman
Presidential Scholar Jordan Coleman describes herself as a strong, resilient, creative, and open-minded leader. Jordan earned the Girl Scouts of America's highest achievement, the Gold Award, by helping young adults with mental health struggles. “Now in college, I have expanded my strengths to leadership roles on campus,” she said.
Jordan is a sophomore majoring in biology on a pre-dental track. She is an honors program scholar and served as the freshman class spokesperson on the Honors Program Student Council for the 22-23 academic year. She is the president of the National Council of Negro Women (NCNW) Coppin State Section, the vice president of S.A.S.S.Y Models on campus, a member of the Pre-Med club, and a member of Queen In You, a mentoring organization.
“I love that Coppin is constantly evolving. Every day it seems that new opportunities are granted to our beloved HBCU. The infinite number of opportunities that Coppin provides to their students is what I love the most,” said Jordan proudly.

Catherine Addey
Presidential Scholar Catherine Addey will proudly tell anyone that, “Coppin State University has provided me with a full-ride scholarship to help me achieve my potential dream job with no financial burden upon me or my future as well.” She originally came to Coppin to major in Rehabilitation Services. However, after receiving guidance from a peer who had similar career aspirations, she decided to declare herself as a Health Science major. Catherine is a sophomore with aspirations of providing affordable, and accessible healthcare services to children in third-world countries.
Catherine loves her university and is thankful every day. “I love and thank Coppin State every single day for blessing me with the amazing sisterhood that consists of other Presidential and Fanny Jackson Scholars. I came into Coppin as a tough soldier just wanting to get my degree and leave.” The young scholar has formed lifelong bonds. Catherine has found her kinfolk, “…they aren’t just my suitemates; they are my chosen sisters. They have shown up, loved me, accepted me from my past, and opened such a greater positive asset within me and my life that I never knew I could reach. Without Coppin State University, I would have never got to meet my lifelong sisters. Which is why I will forever love my illustrious Coppin State University.”

Business-High Education Forum Fellowship
Dr. Lori Harvin, has been selected to participate in the inaugural Business-Higher Education Forum Fellows program. Dr. Harvin is one of 18 faculty slected from across the nation and the only ome from an HBCU. Coppin University proudly stands among the institutions represented in this pioneering national cohort, as they collectively explore avenues to enhance their leadership in fostering innovation within their respective campuses.

A Salute to Our First Lady
The role of a First Lady is both exciting and demanding, and Toinette represents our beloved Coppin with intellect, grace, beauty, and unwavering dedication. Whether at athletic events, theatrical performances, academic pinning ceremonies, serving as a keynote speaker, or engaging students across campus, our First Lady is second to none.
Toinette values the impact of mentoring, and thus uses her influence, example, and insight to empower our students. She has spearheaded and helped to organize Women Empowerment workshops, Wellness Walks, 5k runs, campus wide athletic competition events and health symposiums across states and at Coppin State University.
Toinette is an amazing mother to our two beautiful daughters, and I salute her selfless commitment.

Each year The American Heart Association launches its Woman of Impact fundraising campaign, and Dr. Angela L. Williams, Executive Director, Title III Programs was honored to join this year’s efforts as a 2024 Woman of Impact Nominee.
Her team goal is to raise $10,000.00 which will go directly to the American Heart Association and the Go Red for Women mission. The American Heart Association’s signature women’s initiative, Go Red for Women, is a comprehensive platform designed to increase women’s heart health awareness and serve as a catalyst for change to improve the lives of women globally.

| 2024 USM Regents Faculty Awards

The University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents has chosen three Coppin State University faculty members for their outstanding achievements. These awards represent the highest recognition bestowed by the Board to honor exemplary faculty accomplishments. Annually, awards are presented in five categories: mentoring, teaching, public service, scholarship or research, and creative activity. Dr. Wyletta Gamble Lomax will be acknowledged for her Excellence in Teaching, Dr. Ron Williams for Excellence in Public Service, and Mr. Michael Klima for Excellence in Creative Activity.

ACE Fellows Program
The American Council on Education (ACE) announced that Dr. Stephan Moore, Vice President of Enrollment Management and Student Affairs, at Coppin State University, has been designated as an ACE Fellow for the academic year 2024-25. Dr. Moore is the first Coppin ACE Fellow.
"I am honored to be selected and to represent Coppin State University, as the first fellow. This fellowship is an exceptional opportunity for me to learn from my host institution, ACE training activities, and my ACE colleagues. My goal is to bring back new insights to Coppin State on matters facing higher education, such as access, retention, inclusion, government affairs, donor philanthropy, and community engagement."

We have over 10 tables representing different cultures available for reservation. We are looking for cultural representatives this year from our students, faculty, and staff.
