| Enjoy the holiday weekend safely |
If you're traveling over the long weekend, be safe. The Normal Police Department and other law enforcement agencies are participating in "Click it or Ticket," a high-visibility seat belt enforcement effort running until May 27.
This month, the Town dedicated Karraker Aquatic Center in honor of former Mayor Kent Karraker. Check out the pics below. May is also bicycle safety month. Safety tips are offered below. Can you pass the quiz?

As a reminder, Town of Normal offices will be closed Monday, May 26 in observance of Memorial Day. Only garbage and recycling will be collected that day. Learn more about Holiday Collection on the Town's website.

May is Bicycle Safety Month |
|
|
Think you know how to bike safely? |
| - Wear a helmet – and make sure it fits properly
-
Be visible – wear bright clothing
- Be consistent – ride in the same direction as traffic when on the street
- Check your ABCs – make sure you have Air in the tires, your Brakes work and your Cranks and Chain are in good condition

Follow the rules of the road – obey signs, signals, and road markings, just like a car

Bike rodeo teaches bicycle safety |
In early May, volunteers from bicycle advocacy groups and other organizations, including the Town of Normal, helped children learn to ride their bikes!

| Air! Brakes! Cranks 'n Chain! |
Unity Center kids were treated to the bicycle education "ABCs" and given an opportunity to ride in May as part of National Bike Month. Riders showed off their safe riding skills and learned about basic bicycle safety checks. One student even learned to ride without training wheels. Good job!

- Hovey Avenue Water Service Relocation
- Roadway Crack and Joint Filling Project
- PressurePave Pavement Preservation

Chippewa Street Improvements
- Recycled Materials Processing
- Authorized a joint agreement with the City of Bloomington and the Ecology Action Center for an Energy Efficiency Program
- Approved the annexation of Town-owned properties into the Bloomington-Normal Water Reclamation District

Approved an amendment and final plat for the Carden Springs subdivision at the northwest corner of Towanda and Beech
- Took several actions related to the Collie Ridge subdivision at the northeast corner of Beech and Shelbourne
- Supported the sale of Connect Transit property to Home Sweet Home Ministries for a non-congregate shelter project

Approved the Town becoming certified by the Bird City Illinois Program and recognition of World Migratory Bird Day on May 24
| | The Town of Normal has participated in the Mayor’s Monarch Challenge since 2021, working diligently to
convert turf grass to native, pollinator-friendly plantings.

|
- Town of Normal offices will be closed in observance of Memorial Day.

All other waste collection services (bulk waste, landscape waste and brush) for Monday residents will be collected the following week, as weather and schedules allow.
