Although our office usually keeps summer communications brief, we have a few vital announcements to share this season, most notably the launch of Triton Student System (TSS). Please see the TSS details provided later in this newsletter.

Be part of the UC San Diego community's Pride celebrations by joining the San Diego Pride Parade on Saturday, July 18. Register for the parade on Blink and view the on-campus festivities hosted by the LGBT Resource Center. 

The Triton Health and Wellness Building opened July 14 at the new Triton Center (9520 Gilman Drive). This new 80,000-square-foot facility centralizes comprehensive, holistic care for UC San Diego students and increases access to UC San Diego Health providers on campus for faculty, staff, alumni and the broader community.

Available Services: 

For Students: SHW services, including medical care at Student Health Services (SHS), compassionate mental health support at Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), proactive health education through Health Promotion Services (HPS) and UC San Diego School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry’s College Mental Health Program (CMHP) 

For Faculty, Staff and Community: Occupational Health will move from its current location in La Jolla to the Triton Health and Wellness Building. UC San Diego faculty and staff with UC Blue & Gold, UC Core and UC HealthSavings+ plans are now able to see a UC San Diego Health primary care physician at the new building. Those looking to switch their care to UC San Diego Health can find the steps at the ⁠UC San Diego Health website. 

The 2026 UC San Diego Common Read is “Against Breaking: On the Power of Poetry,” by Ada Limón, the 24th Poet Laureate of the United States, 2024 Time magazine Woman of the Year, and a 2023 MacArthur fellow.  

This impactful book showcases poetry as a powerful force for healing, a call to action, and a vibrant celebration of humanity’s many voices.  
 
Campuswide Common Read events for the 2026-27 academic year are being planned, including an author visit in October. 

UC San Diego and UC Online are offering support to departments and faculty for the development of online undergraduate and graduate courses. Selected projects will receive one quarter of course development support.

Fall 2026: Submit by Aug 24 | Notification Sept 11 
Winter 2027: Submit by Nov 2 | Notification Nov 30

Selection Criteria 
Proposals are reviewed quarterly by the Senate Administration Committee on Distance Education (CODE). Priority is given to undergraduate courses and those that are R-Course approved. Learn more about the proposal questions and evaluation criteria in the recent campus notice. 

Once awards are made, a member of the Digital Learning team will reach out to assess your course needs and create a design plan to execute within that quarter.  

This proposal process will remain open throughout the 2026-27 academic year.

The UC San Diego Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) Compliance Training on UC Learning is now available. The training was developed through the efforts of the Vice Chancellor Offices for Organizational Transformation and Operations Management and Capital Programs in collaboration with the Human Resources Learning Technologies team.  

The first of its kind in the UC system, the training reflects UC San Diego’s prioritization of compliance with federal and state repatriation laws and UC policy. The content focuses on creating shared understanding of NAGPRA basic requirements for reporting Native American and Native Hawaiian cultural resources. This module is intended to strengthen campus consistency and provide accessible guidance for those within the campus community who may encounter cultural material during their course of work. 

All faculty and staff, particularly those who may have a higher likelihood of encountering cultural items or remains in their work, are strongly encouraged to complete the training.   

UC San Diego encourages all student, scholar and employee travelers to prioritize safety and well-being, make informed decisions about travel, and utilize University of California System Office and UC San Diego travel resources prior to departure. 

At least six months prior to departure, travelers should review the University of California System Travel Risk and Insurance and Global Initiatives International Travel Guidance webpages, which includes information about:   

International scholars on a non-immigrant visa should also consult ISEO’s travel pages for information on traveling internationally. 

If you are concerned that delay or disruption of travel may interrupt a research project, award or grant, please reach out to your department, school leadership or OCGA for consultation or assistance.

TSS Access 

Staff and faculty received access to TSS on July 13. View the July 10 campus notice that provides key resources and actions for staff and faculty, including how access will be provisioned, where to find TSS training & support, and more.  

Main campus students are expected to receive access to TSS on July 20, and at the same time will also view their Fall 2026 Booking window. The Office of the Registrar emailed students on July 9 with access, booking and support information.  View the emails sent to undergraduate students and graduate students. 

DES students are expected to receive access to TSS on August 7. Additional information and guidance for DES students will be shared before access begins.  

 
What to Expect from the Initial TSS Release 

The July launch represents the initial release of TSS and is focused on delivering the core, mission-critical capabilities needed to support Fall 2026. It is not intended to provide full feature parity with every legacy system or a fully polished experience from the first day. 

During launch and hypercare, users may encounter functionality that works differently from the previous system, temporary limitations, slower loading times, data or fixes appearing in some areas before others, and workflows that require an interim workaround. Some functionality will continue to be refined or introduced through future releases as the system stabilizes. 

The TSS team is actively reviewing reported issues, prioritizing items that affect critical university operations and providing updates as fixes and improvements are released. Please report problems through the established TSS support channels rather than contacting individual project or functional team members. This allows requests to be tracked, assessed and directed to the appropriate team.

The Getting Started in TSS: General System Use course is now available. This foundational training course is designed for staff who are new to TSS, and introduces system access, navigation and core features.  

Training for TSS 

TSS training resources are actively being developed and released as functionality and business processes are finalized. Materials supporting immediate launch and Fall 2026 activities, including booking, holds, waitlists, scheduling and Triton Enrollment Authorization (TEA) will be added to the TSS Staff and Faculty Training Blink page as soon as they become available. Please bookmark the training page and visit often to see new content. Use the established TSS support channels for immediate assistance.

Fall 2026 Booking and Registration Calendar Update 

To support a smoother transition for campus, the Office of the Registrar has updated the Booking and Registration Calendar for Fall 2026 to include intentional spacing between undergraduate booking groups. You can read more details on Fall 2026 Booking and Registration Calendar Update.  

 
Schedule of Classes Update 

The initial TSS Schedule of Classes provides the core functionality needed to search for and review Fall 2026 course offerings. As part of the initial release, some information may display differently from the previous Schedule of Classes, and some features and formatting continue to be refined. The Registrar scheduling team is also continuing to process Fall 2026 change requests and validate course approvals in TSS. TritonGPT 

Introducing the TritonGPT Student Planner for FA26: The WebReg tool that students have been using for course planning is being replaced by the TritonGPT Student Planner, a specialized version of TritonGPT designed to help students search for classes and build potential schedules.
