What is the Governing Membership?
The Governing Membership is the part of the Council that helps to direct the Council, elects the Board of Directors and Officers, and establishes the bylaws of the Organization. The Governing Membership is comprised of the Board of Directors and the representative of each Organizational Member.
This meeting, held every October, is the highlight of the year for many who attend. It’s similar to the national Conference, but on a smaller scale which allows for us to interact more on the issues we’re facing in our daily work. For space reasons, we usually limit participation to one representative per agency, but because this year’s meeting will be held virtually, many members of the same agency can attend as many of the sessions as they’d like. Even with the virtual meeting, we hope you’ll be able to connect with new and old colleagues in the HCH and Medical Respite movement, be inspired, and be re-charged.

| Your Information is Still Needed to Highlight the Effects of COVID-19
| |
The National Health Care for the Homeless Council and its standing Research Committee are continuing the partnership with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to collect data from universal testing events at alternative care service sites during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Data collection is ongoing. If you have conducted any universal testing events or know of local organizations that have, please forward and add to the data collection tool here to continue to strengthen the data set. We are actively seeking demographic testing data; it is imperative that we gather racial, ethnic, and other demographic testing information as we investigate disparities in COVID testing access and outcomes. We will update these figures as new data emerge to highlight the impact of COVID-19 on people experiencing homelessness and housing instability.

| New Opportunities for Utilizing Enabling Services and Screening for Social Determinants of Health
| |
| The Association of Asian Pacific Community Health Organizations, Health Outreach Partners, MHP Salud, and National Health Care for the Homeless Council invite you to join our upcoming webinar and explore strategies to screen special and vulnerable populations for social determinants of health (SDOH) and build effective practices to begin addressing SDOH through the enabling services workforce. Given the COVID-19 pandemic, this training will highlight the critical importance for enabling services providers to collect social risk data among health center patients. Click here to learn more and register to join us on Wednesday, September 30.
Health centers also are encouraged to apply to participate in a related learning collaborative in the weeks following the webinar -- "Screening Methods and Using Outreach and Enabling Services to Address Social Determinants of Health.” This learning collaborative will consist of four 90-minute sessions from October to November 2020. Sessions will highlight best practices and facilitate interactions among participants to share strategies, challenges, and successes. Click here to learn more and apply by Wednesday, September 30.

Manuscripts submitted for peer review consideration and inclusion in this issue must follow instructions for authors and be submitted by December 23, 2020.

Study Seeks Participants to Discuss Changes to Behavioral Health Services as a Result of COVID Response
| |
In our ongoing efforts to better understand the impact of COVID-19 on people experiencing homelessness, the National Health Care for the Homeless Council is partnering with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and seeking participants for a qualitative study, Assessing the Impact of Behavioral Health Issues on COVID-19 Risks and Disruptions in Behavioral Health Services among People Experiencing Homelessness during the COVID-19 Pandemic.
The study aims to document any changes that may have occurred to behavioral health services as a direct result of the response to the pandemic. Understanding the disruption of behavioral health services to individuals experiencing homelessness will provide evidence to support efforts related to research, policy, and advocacy.
If your clinic provides behavioral health services, please consider nominating a staff member involved with those services to participate in a 60-minute interview that will be conducted by CDC researchers on homelessness. We are specifically recruiting providers who provide behavioral health services to individuals experiencing homelessness and will offer $100 per interview for 60 selected applicants as compensation for their time. Providers interested in participating may complete this brief application.
