West Virginia Educators are Taking a Stand |
The youth vaping epidemic is not being ignored |
|
|
Middle and high school youth in West Virginia are reporting a significantly higher rate of e-cigarette use, surpassing the national average. In response, Governor Jim Justice along with public health partners have taken a proactive stance to safeguard the health and well-being of the state's youth.
In full support of educators and this statewide initiative, the CATCH My Breath team delivered an in-person Train-the-Trainer session at the West Virginia SHAPE Conference. We had the privilege of speaking with three remarkable health educators — Amber, Mark, and Heather — about the transformative impact of their training experience. Listen to what they have to say.

School districts across our country made their voices heard by filing a class action lawsuit against JUUL Labs, Inc., the maker of JUUL e-cigarettes that were intentionally and harmfully marketed to youth. CATCH has not only been at the forefront in following this monumental settlement, but also in serving as a long-trusted expert to school districts in substance misuse prevention.
Whether your school district was a plaintiff in this lawsuit or not, we are here to support you and your staff with best prevention practices and resources that promote a vape-free life for students.
Are you planning to use JUUL settlement funds towards vaping prevention? We would love to hear your story so we can share ideas with other districts - please email catchmybreath@catch.org.

Meet Kobi VanCleave with Prairie Family Center in Burlington, Colorado who shares her journey with implementing CATCH Healthy Smiles. Tooth decay is currently the most prominent chronic health condition among young people, impacting more than 50% of children. CATCH is on a mission to change this statistic by helping educators, like Kobi, to empower students in grades Pre-K through 2 to adopt positive oral health habits for life.
