| | Back From Break: Tips for a Smooth Return to School ✏️ |
Recharging After Break: Your Guide to Finishing Finals Strong |
- Try to Avoid Distractions
- Let your friends know you will be studying and going back to school. To block unavoidable noise, use noise-canceling headphones or listen to calming instrumental music to help you stay focused.
- Start Small and Scale Up
- When you return from vacation, give yourself time to ease back into coursework by starting with small, manageable tasks rather than expecting your previous pace right away. Simple actions, like reviewing the schedule, organizing materials, or outlining study plans, can build momentum and make it easier to get fully back on track
- Refine your Routine
- After a vacation, it’s helpful to refresh your routine and refocus on healthy habits that support your academic success. Prioritizing regular sleep, nutritious meals, and daily movement, even a short walk, can boost your physical well-being and make it easier to concentrate once you’re back to studying.

Grounded in a systems perspective, Jessica approaches every student with a commitment to social justice, inclusion, and cultural humility.
Outside of her work, Jessica enjoys exploring Chicago’s vibrant art scene, spending peaceful moments by the lake, kayaking, bird-watching, and immersing herself in true crime stories. Most of all, she cherishes time spent with family and friends.

| How to Study: Little Habits That Make Learning Feel Lighter 📑
|
In this video from the TED-Ed series on Lessons Worth Sharing, we are reminded that effective studying isn’t about pushing ourselves harder, but about understanding how our brain naturally learns. It explains that learning sticks best when we give our minds the chance to actively engage with information rather than just reread it, and when we allow time for new ideas to settle and strengthen.
From there, the video gently highlights that small shifts, such as testing ourselves, mixing up what we study, and spreading study sessions out, can make a big difference. It encourages us to see mistakes as part of the process and reassures us that real learning doesn’t come from cramming or burnout, but from studying in a way that feels balanced, thoughtful, and kind to ourselves.
