PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Update- Covid Cases at OLV
As of the end of the day on Tuesday, we have nine 'active' cases, one employee and eight students. Active cases means that the person attended school in the last 14 days, tested positive and is completing a ten day quarantine period.
Covid Vaccination Records
Please load your child's Covid vaccination records into Magnus Health. With the increase in cases recently, it will help us to determine if your child may remain in school or need to be collected if identified as a close contact.
Under immunizations, record/COVID Vaccination Card - load a copy of the record.
Antigen  Rapid Tests
Parents are STRONGLY ENCOURAGED to have a supply of at-home antigen tests available to use.
Antigen tests are available from a pharmacy or for DC residents, available at pick-up sites: https://coronavirus.dc.gov/rapidantigen
Montgomery County residents can pick-up antigen tests at a local library: https://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/covid19/testing/rapid-tests.html
Masks
Please consider sending your child to school in a KN95 mask (we do have a supply available at OLV).  Alternatively, please use a medical mask covered by a cloth mask to secure the medical mask in place.
Weather
Temperatures and wind chills are expected to be quite cold this week. Please remind your student to dress warmly in layers and to bring appropriate outdoor gear (coat, hat, gloves, etc.). Even if we stay inside for recess, please remember that students may need to walk to the music room or go outside during the school day.

END OF Q2 REPORT CARDS
Friday, January 14th is the end of the 2nd quarter.  Report cards will be issued the following week in PlusPortals in the eLocker to all families with current tuition accounts.
You may check your child's attendance in PlusPortals to ensure its accuracy.  Please note that any needed changes to attendance can only be made prior to report cards being issued. Please contact the school front office with any issues by email (admin@olvschooldc.org).
Please note that PlusPortals will be inaccessible to parents and students from January 14th until January 20th for grade calculation and verification.
RE-REGISTRATION FOR 2022-2023
During Catholic Schools Week (January 30th - February 5th), all current families will receive an email regarding re-registration for their child/children for the 2022-2023 school year.
If your child will not be returning to OLV next year, please notify the school office in writing as soon as possible at admin@olvschooldc.org.  Thank you!
SCANTRON GRADES 6-8
This week, students in grades 6-8 will be taking their winter Scantron tests in Math and Reading.
Please work with us to help your children prepare for testing by ensuring that he or she:
- arrives to school on time
- gets plenty of sleep
- eats a nutritious breakfast
- brings a calculator (Grades 7 and 8)
- brings a healthy snack and book to read

UNIFORMS IN THE NEW YEAR

Sewing Club (2nd-5th)
Students will learn the lost art of sewing by hand through a variety of fun projects. Focusing primarily on the running and blanket stitch, students will sew animals, key-chains, "too-hot holders," clothing, and seasonal projects. Students will receive their own sewing kits, and learn about the different materials needed to properly sew. This class is designed for beginner sewers, but all sewing enthusiasts are welcome.
Ping Pong Club (1st-5th)
Students will spend time learning the sport of table tennis.  Kids will get a chance to practice their forehand and backhand as they compete with classmates. This ultimate hand-eye coordination activity will surely be a topic of discussion at the dinner table!  Check us out this term to see if you have a Roger Federer in the family.
