Dear Parents,
RE: Five forgotten skill sets that contribute to student success
At a time when we hear a great deal about growth mindsets, good mental health habits, and creating digitally savvy students, we can easily overlook the skill sets that form the building blocks of long-term school success. These are skill sets that are also easily forgotten when we narrow our focus onto numeracy, literacy, performing arts, STEM, and other academic areas.

Our 6th grade art students are learning about how art can teach others! They are making puppets that will teach how to complete a task. The frogs will teach how to defend their pond, with Karate of course! The sock puppets will teach how to make lemonade. Each of the projects were great and we love all of the creativity and encouragement that is happening in the classroom. They are doing a wonderful job!

The cheerleaders did an amazing job at their first EVER competition. They narrowly missed qualifying for state, but they won. They won because they made it on and off the mat without injury, hit the whole routine without ANY deductions, and comforted a cheerleader from another team crying in the bathroom. Our team sang worship songs as they waited to go into warmups, quieting the entire hall in wonder of these bold CHRISTIANS singing!! They proclaimed Jesus to a room of spectators and represented our school, their families, and our Lord proudly. Please congratulate them on their resounding success. They Won!

Our high school Interact club just finished its Winter Hat-Sock-Glove-Blanket Drive and collected 357 items that will be donated to the Tacoma Rescue Mission. Over one-third of the items collected were donated by members of Rotary #8, our local sponsor. The attached photo is of our 2022-2023 officers and the donations.
LCA currently has the only Interact club in Tacoma! Rotary 8 is hoping to help get a chapter of Interact started at another Tacoma area high school in the future, and has asked us to help with the effort once they begin. Fly high Eagles!

Congratulations to our Knowledge Bowl team! Recently, they competed at Eatonville High School against Eatonville and Harrison Prep. Our three teams ended up correctly answering 102 questions, while Harrison answered 34, and Eatonville 33. In each of the three rooms and for all three rounds, our teams either won the round or tied the round. It was a great victory for the team!
Join us on Thursday, February 2 at 3:00pm at LCA for the next Knowledge Bowl meet. We would love to see you there as we cheer them on!
